Besides, everyone was already killed once by Renoir. Either the people are brought back as imperfect copies by Maelle, since you can never paint something the same way twice, in which case everyone is dead already; Or, if you accept that the painted copies are identical to the people who already died, then there's nothing stopping Maelle from painting a new canvas and bringing everyone she cared about back to life there
The well-being of blobs of paint doesn't matter anyway, what matters is allowing someone to either get over their grief by getting rid of their coping mechanism, or letting them kill themselves because they really really like coping. I find the latter option unconscionable
