most games dont have aussie servers anyway.
most of the time you have to play on at least SEA servers.
US West and Japanese servers arent bad but lag a little, fine if you're used to 150-200 ping all the time.

I'm currently playing Aneurism IV and for some reason Australia has the most dominant server on it next to an American server which has equal numbers. Americans are always playing the game with us pretty frequently on that note, but it is a miracle that we're carrying such a small playerbase game. I'm not Australian myself but for many mmos companies end up not even bothering with OCE servers or close them after a while. So they end up being forced to play on US West servers with shit ping.
Planetside 2 comes to mind, it has an Aussie server at first but it became a ghost town so Aussie players had to play on Connery to get enough action. Things probably have changed since then, it's been a while.

i know that xdefiant(yeh i know) was DEAD as in you literally coudnt match with another player thats how few people were playing less than 6 months from launch
so even if you want to play a game online you have to have about 100 other people also playing the same game so games can start/end/be in lobby/menu and have it feel functional
less than that and you just wait around for the 1 game that is actually able to be played
i remember playing bf4 during a time where there was 1 server that only had about 5 free spots because people would reserve place
so if you got in you had to stay in or not be able to play for potentially the whole day.
so most people just play the online games they KNOW will have a large population
there is no market for small online games, because why get invested when in 6 months the game will be unplayable regardless of how many people in the rest of the world are playing it
