Is this game any good? I watched a few videos and people simply cannot talk shit about this game because the brand is so strong that it will get an 8/10 just so FFfans don't get mad.
From what i'm seeing, if i'm being 100% honest, it looks less interesting than 15. I'm not a big action-RPG fan, i like action games if they can be more than just endless button mashing, but this game looks like button mashing: The Game.

>Is this game any good?
the best thing I can say about it is that it's better than its predecessors, namely XIII and XV.

Both great games, so it must be kino

I'll give you XV, if only because it was a half finished piece of shit. But XIII shits all over this garbage

it IS less interesting than XV
XV was a mess, gameplay and story wise, but you could still have some fun playing it
XVI is a mediocre movie with some cool moments but entirely ruined by its AWFUL quest design taken straight out of early 2000s MMOs, 0 character customization, 0 thought during gameplay, 0 challenge, 0 post-game content, 0 exploration, 0 side activities, etc.
if XVI was a 5 hour game then i'd recommend it, but as a 30+ hour ish experience it's just a mind numbing waste of time.

It's got the best story in a mainline FF in almost 2 decades. The primal battles and cutscenes are impressive, and it's the most I've been impressed by cutscene graphics since the transition to the PS3 gen. Not being able to use your whole party in combat sucks, and the gameplay despite being action becomes more tedious than turn-based games a third of the way through. You can't have a DMC type game last 60 hours, the reason turn-based rocks is because you can add shit to a game that long and still spice things up.
TL;DR it devolves into button mashing the game EVENTUALLY

The PS5 demo was cool at least

>You can't have a DMC type game last 60 hours
people still regularly boot up DMC4 for its gameplay alone
the problem is that XVI is not trying to be DMC. it intentionally limits the player by not letting you juggle a lot of the enemies, not letting you jump cancel, not letting you bring the whole moveset that exists, forcing cooldowns, forcing stagger, forcing very drawn out animations for big attacks etc.
it's just not designed as a fun combo game like DMC.
but it also has none of the things that make FF fun, like party customization, party combat, elemental weaknesses, buffs and debuffs, etc.
it fails at both

this but unironically

I like it, banger soundtrack, awesome boss fights, but it felt more like an apology for XV than something that stands on its own.
Like the entire prologue portion which is something that XV would skip or the fact that is actually action instead of whatever the fuck XV was.

It's unironically the worst FF game IMO. It combines the worst part of brainless action games, the cumbersome quest system and the boring QTE fest. Even off-shot spin-offs like the DS Crystal Chronicles sequels, or those shitty Wii games are less garbage. Or even that bootleg beat'em up on the GBC is a better game (which admitedly is a pretty good game). The only saving grace are some of the tracks from the OST.

if you do decide to play it, skip every single sidequest. it turns it from a 5/10 to like a 7/10.

It's the best mediocre FF out there. Worth a play just for Ralph Ineson's Cid, plus cute grills. Summon fights are good-looking events, and side-quests are surprisingly varied. The story, unfortunately, is forgettable if serviceable, same as combat.

Not a high bar, but it's the best FF since XII excluding XIV.

If you have played FFXIV up to endwalker you already know the lore, as some anon mention Cid is the best part of the game.

I kind of had fun with it but I won't be replaying it ever, and it's the first FF where I get that feeling of havong everything done in one go, and I didn't even bother with NG+ as the combat was the weakest part of it for me.

the quest design itself is shitty, but they really expand on the lore of the world and finish some of the plotlines started in the main quest.

XV for being an unfinished abomination and XVI for having the prowess to get FFVIIR combat and make it worse

I had fun with it and I'd give it a 7/10. It's deeply flawed and doesn't really know what it wants to be gameplay wise, but I still think it's reasonably entertaining.
It's insane to me that anyone would say that XV or especially any of the XIII games are better. Pure delusion.

Yoshi indirectly complained that his team didn't play vidya way back in FFXIV: ARR. I'm under the impression that most of CBU3 from that era is still around.

it's absolute garbage. Tries to innovate by becoming a hack n slash game and it is terrible at it. It's missing basic features you already had in h'n's games like DMC back in 2001. Fucking basic shit such as timed combos, where you just wait for a sec before pressing an aditional imput and you get a whole different combo. NOPE. You get a couple basic combos, some directional abilities, and fucking "Eikon" abilities with big cooldowns. So the fight always ends up being you waiting for the cd to be over so you can actually deal damage.
They missed a really big opportunity by not having each Eikon have it's own weapon style and combos.
Then you also have the RPG side, which is complete garbage. It's just Linear progression. No stats, and the weapons/gear you get are always a direct upgrade from the last one. Everytime you get something or upgrade it, you'll know in 15minutes you'll get an upgrade without any need to grind/gather materials. Completely mindless shit.

i agree with the sentiments about the combat system. waste of an opportunity there. However, I do think the Eikon boss fight set pieces are worth checking out the game for. The game should have ended at the Bahamut fight, it was by far more spectacular than anything that came after it, and the combat system is too shallow to carry a 40 hour RPG. I was pretty bored of it at the 20 hour mark.
Anonymous No.714870047 [Report]
It has some very kino moments, but I lost interest when a certain person dies and everyone after is bland. No idea what they were thinking with that.

Yes the Eikon boss fights and the story are nice, Final Fantasy worth. But that's it.
Would've been a great 10hr $30 game. But not a Final Fantasy main game.
It reminds me of one of those "alternative perspective" DLC where they switch up the game style

One of the least interesting games I've ever played. The only redeeming quality is that the boss fights are visually striking despite all amounting to spamming CDs then pressing dodge when attacked. Honestly, just spare yourself the hassle and just watch the boss fights on youtube. I wouldn't condemn myself to this mind-numbing gameplay and story if I weren't a FF-fag.
Anonymous No.714870645 [Report]
The boss fights are really good, story is good, soundtrack is great, side quests are dogshit, no side activities, every dungeon is the same corridor bullshit, no mini games or puzzles
