>Faggot ass Jannie deleted Game Dungeon thread
Which one is your favorite? Would you admit it surpassed AVGN?
>>714862306 (OP)Black Mirror is the most comfy, Cult Tycoon is Ross at his most refined and chiseled.
Game Dungeon is the old AVGN style reviews minus the cringe live action parts which were always my complaint of that era. LGR did a good job with his reviews but never went in depth enough.
>>714862306 (OP)About the only Game Dungeon I cannot watch is Armed and Delirious, that game makes me feel sick for some reason.
>>714862306 (OP)But what is the WORST game dungeon?
For me it's any time he reviews a MODERN indie game they tend to be boring
>>714863676When it is essentially a flash game filler episode.
>>714862306 (OP)Probably the Crew or the sonic heroes one. I used to really like the Strife one, but after thinking about it, those two are better.
>>714863676Hellgate London. It's mostly just complaining without anything funny or interesting in it.
>>714864003The Last stand was a great video
Dungeon Siege is the quintessential Game Dungeon. It's a perfect video.
>>714862306 (OP)Has game dungeon got you to Tru a game before?
>it's a fagtards get mad when Ross didn't waste 2/3rds of a year to beat an obscure janky mess of a game without cheats/walkthrough episode
>jannies deleted e-celeb shit
Based, they should do it more often.
>>714865721This. The comfiest shit on his channel.
Almost convinced me to buy it. But since the devs are long gone I'll just pirate it.
>>714863676For me its Daemonica, because its pretty much just forty minutes of him summarizing the text of a text-heavy RPG
>>714862306 (OP)Jannies would literally delete every Ross or Game Dungeon thread I made for years, fuck these cunts. But furry porn threads are fine, for some reason
>>714862306 (OP)The Sonic Heroes video for me. It's just so out of left field for him.
>>714862306 (OP)For me, it's Realms of the Haunting
>>714867217Avgn and game dungeon are /v/
Seethe
>You were subbed to Ross BEFORE the crusade began
>>714868167I knew him from his machinima
My favorite is nyet 3 because Ross perfectly encapsulates my experience playing it in the 90s before there were walkthroughs.
>>714863676The worst one is deus ex. Overhyped game and not very interesting to me.
>>714863676I don't have any issue with the game-portion of the episode but when I put on the Game Dungeon playlist I always find Battleforge hard to finish, just because it's where Ross first revealed his GAAS-hater power level and his big idea to reach out to EA execs was so naive it was almost cringy. Even at the time I was thinking "do you seriously think literally anything will come of that?"
>>714867757If the episode is basically just a summary of the game then it better be a fucking weird or interesting game to carry things, like Maabus or Armed and Delirious. Daemonica doesn't look like a bad game or anything I just don't think the episode had anything to say.
>>714862306 (OP)His dungeon siege video is great because it made me realize we played in similar ways.
>>714863676Easily Black Future '88, AKA "Ross Discovers the Rogue-lite Genre"

๐
>>714862306 (OP)Probably Strife, I think it was the first one I've watched.
>>714867508I did buy, but ended up getting bored like halfway through. I'd love to see another take on the concept, though, just with more mechanical depth. Maybe have a dedicated healer so the player has more reason to cast spells, and add stuff like damaging zones that you have to move your heroes out of
>>714862306 (OP)Culpa Innata is actually peak despite being one of the recent ones
>>714869469And that's important to me as a gamer.
>>714869645Its up there just by way of the poorly-thought-out (ideology)-gone-mad scifi setting
>>714869645That's why I maintain that Ross hasn't changed or lost his touch, but he really needs to find the right game for the show
>>714869645Yeah, I put it off after a few minutes the first time because I wasn't really in the right mood and adventure game episodes were always my less favourite ones, but damn was it good when I watched it a month ago.
>>714869645Probably his best recent video. I actually liked that weird low budget Cyberpunk rpg game video he did too. Funny enough the studio who did that game also made that wolfhound game that Ross did a vidoe on a few years before but he didn't mention it
>>714862306 (OP)Quadralien and Maabus are my favourites.
>>714862306 (OP)>Which one is your favorite?Might be Sonic Heroes. That game should be outside of Ross's wheelhouse, but he somehow had a good time with it. It was a refreshing take on SH.
Track Mania and Baldies are also in the running.
I would give him $200 to review star control
His best videos are his point and click adventures
>>714871118They just come stuffed with bullshit to the levels of entertainment so naturally
>>714863413It's Israeli. That's probably why
For some reason I really like his Apocalyptica video. It just gives me comfy knockoff 40k vibes
>>714869340Yeah, this one sucked. I remember like 90% of his complaints were him being baffled by common rougelike features or just being shit at the game, he clearly didn't get it. Every time he complained I just wanted to try the game out more. I never did play it though, so maybe it really was shit.
>>714863413Okay, fuck you. I was going to post an image from the game, but searching for "granny x" (the original title) was a huge mistake. Again, fuck you
Memory's all fuzzy, but that one ugly game where he played as a dwarf and basically had to power through it because the devs didn't test the class was what stuck with me. Have to rewatch it again just to remind myself just how bad that game is.
>>714871826It's one of those middling rogue-likes that's probably fine but why bother when there's so many other games to play
>>714872176Clans? That's a fun episode, honestly

>>714872301WHAT WERE THEY THINKING???
My favorites are always the ones where Ross shows his turbo autism for overthinkinh games, like the culpa innata one or the one where he kept taking a blatant GB fetish game seriously, but my overall favorite is probably Quadralien.
>>714862434>Keep families together because the feds will think twice about firing on childrenDidn't work for Waco
>>714872739>a blatant GB fetish gameDeath's Hangover is actually a really fun ball-and-paddle game. Everything that dev makes is super rough, charming and unique, and they all go for like a dollar on sale. Would recommend
>>714872739>where he kept taking a blatant GB fetish gameYeah it's funny how naive Ross is towards that sort of stuff. Like in the Death's Hangover video, he completely misses how the entire game is nothing but an autogynephilia fantasy and just thinks it was a strange design choice
>>714872924Oh, I didn't mean that in a bad way, I can commend autists who air their fetishes without an ounce of shame and make something entertaining, like that game was. It just felt so funny seeing Ross not get it to the point I'm not even sure if he was making a joke or legit doesn't know it's a fetish.
>>714873241Imagine if Ross played Tribal Hunter. He'd just think it was a weird Kirby knockoff game. Wholesome.
>>714873320Genderbend. I don't know why that guy said GB when AGP would've been more appropriate.
>>714871613There's definitely something supernatural or occult/kabbalah about it
i used to like ross but now after flooding /v/ I think he is a huge fucking faggot, just like you
>>714873425I thought GB was just the general term for the fetish, while AGP is specifically about wanting to turn yourself into a woman
>>714863676did not even watch 10 minutes of it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpL5KDiqgP0
Why did everyone in /v/ seethe so hard about his Gothic video?
>>714874193It's funny though. Aida is a funny sociopathic protagonist and her walk cycle is so stupid
>>714874224It was the Revenant video.
>>714874224Gothic fans are unhinged. You make one complaint about the game and they screech and cry over it. Don't get me wrong, 1 & 2 are great games but the fans can't handle hearing a single valid complaint about them
>>714862306 (OP)I go back most often to The Crew. It's a mid game he elevates by turning it into a roadtrip.
>>714863676Any of the turkjank games are tied for worst. The Resident Evil knockoff is just him complaining the entire way and Culpa Innata is way too long and features him trying (and failing) to channel his Deus Ex review.
>>714874023Yes, it's ross making all these threads
>>714862306 (OP)Outrun clones and Bip bop II
>>714868167I watched him back when he was halfway through Freeman's Mind. Newbies won't know what it's like to wait for years to see the ending.
>>714869356Is the same hill. Just a little appart.
Ross came over and told me next follow-up episode releases tomorrow.
>>714868052this game is how Mikami envisioned RE1
>>714873320Gender Bender the characterd in the game get turn knto women for no reason, keep in mind the game is basically Arkanoid.
>>714872795(This advice doesn't work if the FBI and ATF need a clear win and will sacrifice everything to make it seem like a victory).
>>714862306 (OP)none, his voice too annoying
>>714875064I mean if you email him he WILL tell you his schedule. I knew about his last 2 videos days in advance and also the twitter push a week ago.
>>714875064>his last stream mentioned he wants to do another one before the follow up video to ease in the new channel subscribersIt has been so long since the last follow up I no longer believe they exist.
>>714862306 (OP)The funky grandma point and click game
>>714868909Here's your (you)
>>714867918both are /v/ culture.
>>714862306 (OP)>Eurocucks are eceleb worshippers Of fucking course.
I wasn't interested in the Kyrandia videos.
>>714876001I wasn't interested in Kyrandia videos because I know they're good games and want to finish them all one day.
>>714875652>>714868909Which one then? There are 3 Deus Ex videos. There are multiple Deus Ex games.
>>714865721>Want to buy DS2 on either GOG or Steam>Still neither have the expansion that continues the story of the originalSame with the base game 1 not having Legends of Aranna.
Fucking copyright bullshittery from Microsoft and 2K...
>>714877865Go to Steam guide's page of the games and get the link to expansions.
>>714873241I honestly don't think it was fetish bait. There's really nothing else in the game that alludes to it, and there's no lewd stuff at all. I genuinely think the dev just thought it would be funny
>>714874118You thought correct. GB is usually turning someone else into the opposite sex (e.g. man -> woman, and then (you) fuck her), whereas AGP is strictly a man who gets off on imagining himself as a woman
why doe he say Ross's instead of Ross' though
>>714874193Why? It was a fun little episode with a surprisingly amount of death
>>714878901I feel like he explained that one before, but I forgot the reasoning.
>>714878775If someone designed a video-game where the plot was "haha, imagine if you had to defeat enemies by FARTING on them, isn't so funny and gross?", I would not give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe if it was a 2000s studio game, but the fact that it's a 2010s indie game only makes it even more likely
>>714878901Watch the first follow up episode.
>>714878901>he didn't watch the first follow-up
>>714878901>>714879073Because it's grammatically correct, you ESL retards. Possessive pronoun nouns always end in apostrophe s, even if the noun already ends with an s
>>714878901Because "Ross Game Dungeon" sounds like something a caveman would say, whereas "Rosses Game Dungeon" is actually correct English grammar. It's just that some style guides suggest adding the possessive "s", while others don't. He's clearly in the former camp
>>714879128But in that case farting would be a main theme of the gameplay. At no point is the gameplay echoing the genderbender stuff. It would be more like a game where the protagonist just farts at times during cutscenes, like it was a running gag
>>714878893Pretty much what this anon said
>>714879128It just came off as a "haha, what if they became girls?" moment that I never for once second doubted it was a fetish thing.
>>714874834I think I started following his stuff around Freeman's Mind 3 or 4, back when he was still with that shithole Machinima.
Remember Gorilla Gong? Shit on Ross all you want, but the dude was always ready to put his money where his mouth is and start to make things better, or at least his version of better.
>>714879443It used to be that people just found it funny
>>714862306 (OP)Arcade America is one I rewatch a lot. It's such a fascinatingly soulful game.
Bip Bop and Spiderbot are both banger episodes, too.
>>714862306 (OP)Realms of the Haunting. I think it was taken off youtube for some reason, but it's both a fun journey and Ross' commentary is pretty funny throughout.
Gothos was funny too. Basically anything that involved live action CGI from the 90's is gold when Ross is involved. I wish he did Command and Conquer 1.
Do people look at games like Duck Game and think it's fetish fuel too?
>>714879905Only Phantasmagoria 2 got flagged and removed by youtube, Realms is still available.
>>714879824Probably the best video to recommend to someone who's never seen anything by Ross. Short, sweet, surreal and mostly just Ross being Ross
>>714880106Was it the bondage or outside the night club scene?
>>714880106They couldn't handle that 4/4 sex rating
>>714880216Youtube being youtube, they never told him the reason
I got a good chuckle out of Sabotain, especially near the end.
>Protag gets a medal for destabilizing an entire planet's civilization in some fucked up cold war and causing untold misery
>Leaves in a retarded, overly proud walk
>Ross: "And here's a dangerous war criminal and not an eight year old who just won the spelling bee"
>>714878901off to the grammar eastern front with you
>>714878901One of my favorite moments came from him adressing that question. Including the phrase "This is why grammar Nazis lost grammar WW2."
Are people still mad at him for Illbleed?
>>714881305Why that one? I remember people being pissed about Carnevil
>>714881543Sorry meant Carnevil.
>>714881589Love women

>>714880690>Sabotainhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd02uFV4Y7E
So 2000s
>>714881543That Carnevil shit was just weird. So he doesn't like shooting at women in games, why was that ever so controversial?
>>714869340Haven't watched this one I own the game and it's definitely not much to write home about will watch and see his thoughts
>>714862306 (OP)>Would you admit it surpassed AVGN?No doubt but AVGN hasn't been good in 10+ years. James is old and done, while Ross is forever sustained by mold.
>>714881543There was also the Mage Knight Apocalypse controversies, where he criticized the happy merchant character and the vampire lady being dressed like a stripper. Chuds can't handle Ross's common sense centrism
>>714863676Honestly I love Ross but Game Dungeon is very hit and miss. Some of them especially the earlier ones I've watched several times but others I didn't finish because they're over an hour long and the game is some grey slogfest that doesn't warrant the runtime at all.
>>714881936Wait, he made a game dungeon of that?
>>714882050There are some I'll probably never watch and there are some I've watched 5+ times.

>>714881936it's funny that he knows what a happy merchant is
>>714862306 (OP)>AVGNIsn't that the retard that had to do all sorts of retarded stuff to get some recording on a crapple because he's too stupid to use a real PC and edit his videos like a normal person?
>>714869469I didn't like that one as much, Ross said he isn't into DOOM in it and I'm trying to forget that ever since.
>>714867918jannies get mad when people make threads that aren't being spammed with loli goon shit
>>714882348You could argue that "I don't like seeing women get hurt" is both a leftist (feminist) and a conservative (female exceptionalist) view
>>714882297It was my ex's favorite. Now when I see that review I cry
>>714882504He does live in Poland, after all. I wonder if he learned it from his mentally ill schizo leftist wife
>>714882431A shame that one dedicated admiral poster stopped posting, I remember seeing him in every Ross twitter/youtube post.
>>714882431>Later never comes
>>714882537>Ross said he isn't into DOOMRoss simply doesn't like labyrinthine level design and aiming with arrow keys
>>714882548yeah but it's not a centrist one which would be more like "i don't care" or "you have equal rights so do whatever"
>>714882593It's ok baby I'll hold you
>>714882762It's not even a political view. Ross addressed it in the followup. He admitted it's purely an unga bunga caveman brain instinct and that it has nothing to do with logic. You can't possibly say it has anything to do with ideology
>>714880216Or maybe it was the naked titties, who knows
>>714882761>Ross simply doesn't like labyrinthine level designThat kind of collides with his ingame map autism. Maybe he doesn't like mindless repetitive fun.
>>714882761Nobody likes aiming with arrow keys.
And just like Hexen, if you play it long enough the level design starts making sense.

>>714883136Thanks, that caught me by surprise, I was 99% expecting to just be called a faggot
>>714882876>He admitted it's purely an unga bunga caveman brain instinctWhich is a lot more based than he being part of some right wing mold squad, to be honest.
I have that instinct too, but it only triggers for anime girls.
>>714881543It was weird hearing him complain about shooting female enemies. I thought Ross was more practical than this, like he'd just figure the chick is armed and evil, so just shoot her, but he gets upset with it.
>>714882431>That bleak as fuck ending where the Admiral says he's going to spend his final days with his familyFor such a silly and bad game, that acting is really good.
>>714882908I think I understand him: he likes games where you can immerse yourself in another world but Doom's mapping is too abstract.
So for example, test drive has a bunch of features that look like a real place, while doom has geometry that sorta but not really looks like a space base.
I'm sure he addressed that in an episode but it escapes me right now.
>>714883612I remember now, it was killing time:

>Gave me a tryout and said he didn't like my editing style (turns out he said the same to the 50 other people who applied)
>Feel hurt and stop watching his videos for over a year
>Just getting back into them now
Ross really has a particular tism if all 50 who applied weren't good enough for him but I realize that's just his hyper specific personality now
>>714883215Definitely black future is his worst imo

>>714862306 (OP)AVGN is painfully embarrassing and juvenile. Game Dungeon is actually hilarious because Ross is a neurotic crazy person that has a bizarre and idiosyncratic view on random esoteric games.
>>714863676Deathโs Hangover without a single doubt. Yuppie Vampire or whatever it was called was also pretty terrible but Life is Strange might actually be the worst because itโs just him yammering randomly about the demo of some cringe preeteen girl 3D point and click
>>714884625I know some anons said the same thing back then. Like you said, I think he just has a very particular idea in mind of how something should be presented, and he won't compromise on that, to his own detriment (when it comes to the pace his videos come out).

I agree with the core of that video though: an OS should allow the user to customize it extensively, because it's such a fundamental piece of software that can have a huge impact on productivity, and most people are going to have their own quirks that a single layout can't fully appeal to. The world was better when people were in charge of how their software looked
>>714896034The Crew.

>>714897419That can be true in a lot of levels and areas. But you cannot satisfy a person like Ross. He will find something to complain about it. Even if that something is insipidly small and irrelevant, he will talk about it like it's "deal breaking". And even, if you fix the deal breaking part.... a couple of months later, he will find that doing X is "not optimal". So, you add two ways to do X better. But no, he doesn't like those either. He wants to make X in THIS way, not in THAT way. So, yes. You make possible to make X in THIS way. Can you guess what happens next? You cannot satisfy a customer like Ross. Not with hardware/software made to be mass-produced.
>>714893338I don't know, I've read some people bringing this up for the Well of Souls video, saying "oh you didn't do <x>" or something, but... unless his character was supposed to be damaging basic enemies to -500% health by level 3, it makes no sense that basic enemies would take one to two shots and then slightly less basic tougher enemy would take 80. That's not "oh you omitted the fuckle grungle mechanic" stuff, that's shitty Warcraft 3/Oblivion mod territory.

Even now with an SSD and 1-2 second loading screens it annoys the fuck out of me if there are a lot of them like in a Bethesda game having to go from inside a building, leaving the building, to another building and then back to the original building all for a single quest that's 3-4 loading screens at least and they all slow down my game because now I'm not focused on the game but how to get places with going through the least amount of loading screens possible.

Having watched the top videos probably half a dozen times or more, it makes sense that the Game Dungeon as a whole leaves a much stronger impression in memory than in reality.
That said, even forgettable dungeons are wonderful, if only for one watch.
The real tragedy are the videos on the bottom. Some are mistakes that Ross admits to (Life is Strange, Uncanny Valley), which is fair, but others can make you hate Ross and his infuriating bullheadedness.

>>714911418Your retarded crying is not video games, Faglord
>>714913595AVGN and Game Dungeon are very different of course, but when people compare them, they're talking about the vibe. They're both very comfy, cozy, and have MASSIVE rewatchability value. I think it's because James and Ross are similar people. They're both Gen X'ers (which makes them unique from largely millennial content creators) who are autistic, charming, and largely disconnected from modern brainrot internet culture. They're wholesome out-of-touch old dudes, which is very precious nowadays
>>714884625>>714902843What is editing in this context? Deciding which video clips to play when, or do you mean writing? If you mean video clips part, there's no way it can be that hard. It's just playing gameplay over a voice.

>>714913509With tier lists I'm always confused/bothered/disagree with the guy's ranking, so I want to highlight what I put and why
>SI enjoy the game, enjoy Ross's playthrough (like with Well of (((Souls)))) or I enjoy his tangents like The Crew/Deus Ex very much.
>AS but weak.
>BIt was mostly talking about the game/funny observations, but it didn't go beyond that. Take Gothic: besides him messing up on teachers, it was a standard Gothic video.
>CB but lesser, and we get more into the "diary of me playing a game" that I dislike.
>Dt's just a diary/game's boring. Like Hinterland seems cool game to play, not to watch.
A big criteria is also cool to boring ratio. I don't remember much in say Black Future, because it was a fundamentally boring game. Daemonica/Journeyman Project if I were to play, would probably be an A or even S tier game for me because it's the type of game I love, but they're not the type that's all that good for watching a guy play.
The best types of games to watch are those that have a lot of great moments that are shitty to get through. Gothos is an example: it seems great but I will need to spend a few weekends to actually see it all, it seems. Ross giving me the highlight reel is exactly what I want.

>Great Ross riffing MaterialThe ones I am drawn back to because I enjoy that that much.
>Ross plays a gameRoss plays a game he completes it and ahs things to say
>Ross cannot make me careThe video is dull and I get nothing out of it
>Ross is bad at gamesRoss's inability to process these games correctly makes them almost null
>Barely RecallNuff Said
>Proto SKGThese barely count as Game Dungeon for me on account of their primary focus being to voice stuff that would later go on to be SKG.
Also I realized that my least favorite kind of game dungeon on average is "Ross plays a game in the Diablo Lineage" likely because I was on the Bioware side of the RPG spectrum.

>>714922354The console ones are my favourites, personally. The Sega CD episode is the first one I've seen.
https://youtu.be/FvT8jG1OVdI
https://youtu.be/4yn52NTdV0c Two-parter
https://youtu.be/AknyR-kRvLc This one isn't very informative but has some fun bits
https://youtu.be/g2eH3vYbdGo Has a 32X sequel
And as for some classic non-console-oriented episodes:
https://youtu.be/a4QBeADNM34 Continued in the Cheetahmen episode
https://youtu.be/NEwgFmL31RQ
Absolute peak comfy is probably the Bible Games trilogy:
https://youtu.be/LkNvQYiM6bw
I must say, I don't really care for episodes that feature Mike Matei doing a villain thing while jumping around in a costume that ends with them shitting on each other, like Bugs FUCKING Bunny, Batman, Spiderman or Wizard of Oz.
>>714922069The ones where he does some research on the history of whatever are nice. Those kinds of videos a dime a dozen nowadays, but back then it was pretty novel.

>>714916815Half of it was because I forgot about it, half was because it was just the game. Like Rama: the game was great, why shouldn't I go play it instead of listening to Ross summarize it? Or Hinterland/Trickstyle. I didn't put Legend of Kyrandia 2 on there because I don't want to get spoil on another game I'm interested in playing.
>>714917353I enjoy it as an episode, but again, it's Ross going over a game and not adding much to it. What am I getting from Game Dungeon that I'm not getting from me playing it?
I put Deus Ex in S because he has interesting things to say about Deus Ex. I put Arcade America in S because I enjoy him talking about America. I did not subscribe to "summarize games that I can go easily play" channel.
>>714917598I enjoy all his videos. If I had to put his videos to most youtubers, every single Ross video would be in B-S tier no question about that. I am comparing Ross to Ross, and Ross's peaks are simply the best.

Zombie Trailer Park was a really good one. It's essentially a Game Dungeon disguised as a Moon Gaming episode for April Fools. The gimmick of having yourself on your own show never gets old, though I've only seen it executed poorly where that itself is the joke.
