I generally agree with that sentiment, especially nowadays when empty open worlds are a staple of the industry.
Level design has taken such a nosedive in terms of actually being engaging it's not even funny anymore, there was a good comparison picture with dark souls 1 and elden ring for that issue, unfortunately I can't find it right now so take a table flip instead

Getting all the JP VAs for older characters that aren't getting alts that might have had their contracts expire at this point would be a pain just to voice the older main story that everyone has already read.

You remember StarFox 64? From mission to mission there's nothing, just a menu. If that game were made today there would be 30+ minutes of pointless flying to each mission, like in Breath of the Wild.
