No, it's a chatroom. It's as good or bad as you make it. I only use it to talk with friends. I don't join or post in public servers. We still use Mumble for voice chat because discords voice quality is ass and running a Mumble server for a year is cheaper than paying for server boosts on discord.

When I was playing on a WoW private server, I found a guild of pretty chill east europeans who were raiding together. Everyone had a mic and a personality, and no one was a massive faggot. There was banter, laughs, genuine conversation during raids, and people were just chill in general, chatting about random shit in guild chat etc. It felt exactly like how WoW did back in 2005. I miss those days of the internet, but it still does exist in isolated pockets. I had so much fun with that guild

Esports made multiplayer games too serious and less of a playground type setting. The average person on mic is so genuinely unpleasant to be around that people either mute up or match their energy and devolve coms into a virgin shouting match.

Most of the people from my old online friend group are dead now. A couple overdoses that may or may not have been accidents, one explicit suicide, and one guy who had a heart condition that caught up with him.
