You can beat the entire game without setting foot in the mines once OP. The only odd ball item you can't get outside of the mines the the basic quartz but luckily you can get it from Clint or the library trash can.

It had a Prospecting profession in which you scanned the area for resource deposits, and then narrowed down your search to pinpoint rich ore and mineral veins.
No convenient rocks sitting on the surface for you to hit with a pickaxe.

Theres a lot to do, but you could always just sell off a bunch of shit, stop growing plants and focus on what you feel like doing. I've entirely stopped planting crops and have lots of fruit trees.
