they were better back then too. The d-pad on my asciiware controller is still good to this day.

I love the old ASCII and Hori pads for the PS1, perfect for fighting games.

There's a trigger on the back of the right side. The controller's layout is region specific though interesting enough.

what happened to third party controllers in general? I used to be able to spend 20 bucks on a madcatz and it would last me most of a consoles life. these days I get some third party shit off Amazon and within 2 weeks I'm getting stick drift and stuck buttons.

Now third party controllers often are much better than the first party. Hall or TMR sticks, paddles, customizable triggers, low latency, the works.
And they offer a full price spectrum. Need a beater for 25 bucks? Nova Lite. Sweaty tryhard? Apex 5 for a cool 180. And everything in-between.

This is the pocket station, Sony's attempt at making something similar to the Dreamcast's vmu. It plugs into your ps1 through the memory card port and certain games let you install shit to it/save data. It shipped with Doko Demo Issyo, a game where you could take care of that cat and a couple other animals like a tamagotchi. Also the fact that people don't recognize Toro these days is a testament to Sony's treatment towards their legacy shit, even if these were Japan exclusive.

it's ironic that if they made this exact same controller today I can imagine Nintendo would sue them into oblivion claiming connectable control halves is some copyrighted feature or some horseshit.

Someone at Nintendo really loves Hori, even that shitty R1 placement reminds me of the GC's Z-button.
