Upright posture looks heroic and humanizing so it's best for monsters that aren't completely malicious in nature. Now the arched back makes a creature look monstrous, ugly, stupid, but also feral, evil, and predator-like - see Big Bad Wolf, or Happy Merchant.

You'll notice this with many Western designs for anything fantastical. Producers and execs see what has worked in the past and they emulate it with little differentiating for films, TV, video games, etc. You see this often with the generic horror monster/alien. It's almost always a creature that screeches, has sharp teeth and can crawl on walls. Whether it's an ancient evil within a temple, or an alien from galaxies away. It's always a creature that crawls on walls, sometimes with two sets of arms, and goes "screeeeeech".

It's the problem of spreading efforts thing for countless concepts and running them past consultants.
The consultants will end up picking the same pattern out of every lineup. Even if you theoretically have a large amount of consultants, the kind of networks they build end up creating chokepoints and filters that end up reducing their output to something very samey regardless.
Add in the mandates from various other groups and you've got even less to work with.

I dont understand why they dont hire an animal anatomy consultant to draw and help the VFX artists with making the creature, alien or monster believable. Like the Distortus Rex looks fucking retarded not just from the design but the CGI. I don't think a lot of designers and artists have a good grasp on what makes something genuinely discomforting to look at. Generic spooky dooky monsters don't have that affect. Compare the default necro on the upper left to the evolved ones right below them, it's nowhere near as unnerving.
