Lobbying group admitted one of the reasons publishers they destroy your purchases is so they can more easily sell you their next game.
Don't fall for the blatant trolls and shills trying to misrepresent the initiative.
This affects you even if you don't buy these types of games as industry resources are being pulled to make their AAA slop, while also encouraging other to follow along these bad practices. It is something that is only getting worse the more you ignore it.

No one is asking for permanent server support.
This isn't something prohibitively expensive to do as they like to pretend, your rare always online indie title isn't going to be cancelled for this (if those even exist).
Regular indie games won't feel this at all since they don't have always online servers.
The initiative isn't retroactive.

Am I dumb or was this not openly known by everybody?
Even without them explicitly saying it, having a previous live-service game active when you're trying to sell the sequel seems like it'd cannibalize your playerbase.

It was, it is more of a matter of they saying the quiet part out loud as an argument in their own defense. And it works to show people who still don't fully understand the initiative what is really going on.

Please describe to me what this is to me without the "buzzword". Remember to keep it simple to make it easy to convey the meaning, preferably with a single word.
