If someone came up with some sort of comprehensive launcher that segues the decomp versions of Sonic 1, 2, and CD with 3 A.I.R. and inserts the Origins cutscenes between each transition then I'd advocate for that over Origins.

Origins is a neat package, even if it's flawed. If you can get it on PC for cheap I say go for it and try out some mods for it (specifically the Ultrafix mod), in the absence of my aforementioned idea.

Spongebob on the other hand has no chance of returning to former glory, plus it’s a fucking TV show that’s been milked far past the point of them ever being able to do anything interesting with and the creator is dead along with all the old writers and animators that made it great in the first place. With video games there’s far many more directions you can go in. TV shows often run out of ideas for new material after about two or three seasons. Video games can always be invented into a new experience (or nostalgic one) to keep it engaging for the player.

I was one of the few people who bought Engage. I put over 100 hours into it. I enjoyed it, but it is an extremely flawed game and most people dont even know it existed. I grew up with Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, played a small amount of Sonic Heroes and Sonic Riders, my first DS game was Sonic Rush which I played on my sister's DS because I didn't have one (I got really excited because I saw Blaze on the cover and felt intrigued), tried to beat Sonic Chronicles The Dark Brotherhood but I got stuck, and the last Sonic game I remember playing was the knight one which I rented and almost completed at a friend's house and later received as a gift. Of those games, SA2B and Rush were the only that strongly resonated me. I'm really not as opinionated as some autists who make hour long video essays, I just liked the music, graphics and debuting characters from those two games. Shadow's lust for revenge and inevitable self-sacrifice and Blaze overcoming her schizoid personality disorder to be friends with Cream really struck a chord. Personally I don't even care about Sonic as a franchise anymore. I've lost the ability to care. Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic being the same character instead of alternate universe counterparts made NO FUCKING SENSE unless you're looking at it from a meta "this is a game franchise" perspective. So we're at a point where the games can't take themselves seriously enough to give us interesting story lines, Sonic has to be a beacon of morality and can't ever be allowed to fail or be selfish in a way that backfires, his ever-growing list of friends don't get any character growth outside of their debut games if they're ever heard from at all... There is like 30 years of junk getting hauled around and mismanaged by writers who use fucking therapy language and have characters doing and saying things that seem unlike them to progress the plot, it's ALL a mess. I don't like it.

I dunno. I grew up with Ryan Drummond soap shoes Sonic so I love him but Modern Sonic himself does nothing for me. I'd be fine with the Classic Sonic from the OVA, because at least he talks and has personality flaws. I like both characters so I'm mostly impartial.
