I feel like this is a poor idea that they think will make people more willing to buy amiibo. They do realize the NFC scanner in the Switch 2 is powerful enough to read the tags through the box of amiibo, right? Not to mention the third party amiibo cards and downloadable reloadable tags. This is going to make for a bunch of people rushing into stores with their switch 2 to scan amiibo and get all this shit for free, especially because of the scarcity of amiibo.

Besides, I think the main idea is to push towards virtual only, which gets around the problem entirely. I think they might start asking third-party games to include a virtual amiibo for their games, and maybe some kind of trading system, so they can track who people really want for a new smash bros
they might also do something like a hub world friends can visit, kinda like animal crossing but with various characters and shit
