Dark 1 and the Barrier twins are crutch characters who will prevent you from learning how to play the game properly if you depend too much on their Provoke/Wide Guards and never learn how to balance your offense and your defense.
Dark 1 should be attacking as often as she is defending, Electro and Leaf should be attacking/supporting as often as they defend, and some of the strongest party setups don't even bother to include these characters or relegate them to the midline until they absolutely need to tank something up front.

Any one that interests you, but a lot of people start with Romancing SaGa 2/3, or SaGa Frontier. If you want to play the series chronologically then Final Fantasy Legend I. The first two Gameboy games are about 12 or so hours long.
