I can recommend Randomax and the 3 games by the guy who made Like Dreamer.
Rabi Ribi has shmup blood in its veins but is a platformer, worth trying out if youre fine with branching out from the arcade structure that shmups have.
I enjoyed neko navy and am waiting for the devs next game that will surely come out any year for sure.

My first 1 C.C was Zero Ranger and it took me like 35 hours to beat it, I used ship C.
Now If you really fell in love with this game you could try to 1 C.C it and get all S ranks, but I don't like it THAT much.

I want to make a simple shmup game, but I don't know how to balance the game around good players.
If I make it too easy, the good players won't get hit at all.
If I make it too hard, the bad players can't complete the game at all.
How do developers balance this? By just letting players have unlimited continues?

For a beginner, the best ones to try to 1CC are crimzon clover, mushihimesama, eschatos and devil blade reboot. They all have easy modes that are good introductions to the genre.

Really interesting and unorthodox game. If you want a lot of gameplay variety, try this one. You can really tell the different characters are based on the mechanics from different games with characters using gimmicks like swords, invincibility frames, and options. I can get to stage 7 consistently, but just can't clear the first boss of that level. Really long game overall.

I really like it a lot. Has a nice grind to it that makes it more chill to play than other shmups.

Honestly, I don't even love Deathsmiles. I just played it once on a whim and felt like it was really easy. Ended up getting the 1CC in a few hours over a few days. Fun game, but I prefer vertical scrollers. Really enjoying G Darius now though.

Carrots on the stick for newcomers. Blue Revolver has missions that break down each stage into little discrete challenges with regular completion & score medals. You also earn points to buy cosmetics.

People have an astonishing capacity for grinding and busywork if you make it feel like it's worth their while. The difference between restarting stage 4 in practice mode until you can clear the boss and completing a mission that tells you to clear stage 4 in one life is purely semantic, but for so many people it makes a world of difference.

Most importantly you can do that without diluting the core mechanics

lots of good picks itt but one of my underrated favorites is DRAGON BLAZE. good middle ground between bullet hell and psikyo style design with cool art style and mechanics

In terms of modern indie shmups that are good for beginners but still look/sound/play great, ZeroRanger/Devil Blade Reboot/Angel At Dusk are probably the trifecta.

Personally I like Raizing/Eighting stuff even if it's a bit rough in terms of balancing (more so Batrider & Dimahoo than Garegga; Grand Prix is cool mostly for the novelty and the shmup side mode in TvC is awesome).

By locking on enemies more than using your shot. Hyper laser drops your encroachment by a lot, so does quick killing bosses.
