I buyed boughten a prebuilt with a 4070 for $1,200 and I've been pleased with it. Was basically the same as buying the parts at the time (IIRC it was like $20 more) and I did very much appreciate just going straight to getting the OS sorted and my shit installed rather than hooking everything up. Was still more than I wanted to spend but since AI porn's got me by the balls ATI was out of the question and the regular 4070 seemed like the sweet spot for 12gb vram and them fuckin cudas. As much as I considered a 4070 ti super it would've been a few hundred more and I'm still not sure if that would have opened up new avenues of AI porn or if it just would've let me gen it a few seconds faster, it's possible it would be a world of difference for AI video gen but I haven't been impressed enough with that to care

Which honestly could have been avoided if console games had graphics settings, even just one basic one, like if you could choose between prettier graphics, or targeting a specific fps instead. But on consoles, when a dev makes a pretty game with frequent fps drops into the teens, you can't fix that. I don't see any reason it shouldn't be possible to add a setting. If a game runs like shit on my PC, I just stop trying to run everything on high graphics.

With $10K you are pretty much open to anything in the normal retail market. There are some ultra high end parts which you won't need but you can easily get the best GPU, Intel/AMD CPU, MB and load up on RAM. You could cut the budget in half to $5,000 and still have a better PC than 95% of the board.

It's understandable that console gamers won't have issues paying for their games, since they get one game annually. 100 dollars a year isn't that bad after all. Although you will end up paying the console's worth to use your own internet to download the games you bought physical copies for.

I own a PS5 Pro, Switch 2 and an old ass non-gaming laptop. I too have been weighing whether it's worth it to splurge and build a gaming PC. I have owned a workstation, but never a dedicated gaming PC and the component pricing is pretty grim. I came up with $4k parted out (with a nice monitor). I still want one, though it's just hard to justify rationally. Also, PS5 Pro gets way too much forced hate.

You typically never want to be playing on performance modes even with a PS5 Pro, it's objectively a disgusting experience visually. Unless you are willing to make the game look like it's full of mud and have constant pop-ins quality modes are the only realistic choice most of the time. Performance modes also typically don't stay stable 60, they're constantly dropping below 40, and balanced modes are never a stable 40, it's always dropping. Both modes are pointless even including on a PS4 Pro.

You cannot because the discrete GPU market is completely fucked up. AMD and NVIDIA operate as a cartel: they both stopped producing last gen cards at the same time and AMD delayed their launch until after NVIDIA. AMD could have launched before NVIDIA with a bunch of cards in a market with no competition. AMD choose not to. AMD does not give a fuck about gaining market share. AMD and NVIDIA cards are being sold over 70% over cost. Components like motherboards or cases have like 10-15% margins.
