I have yet to find a single enemy that survives the I win button, and since my officer always gets first roll in initiative.... yeah.
I didn't even minmax this, I don't even remember what talent gives me first turn, it just happened that the game just broke

And if I "just don't use it" then arch militant ulfar can still solo any encounter too.
I don't even read the items I pick up any more, i assure you I have not optimized my build, the game just needs tougher enemies and weaker momentum abilities.

Everything is spelled out. 3d areas look terrible compared to 2d backgrounds. Terrible vendor reputation system and itemization. Not to mention loading screens.

I just fear that Owlcat is going to nerf player abilities into the ground without taking into account that the game is kinda balanced around the player getting to prevent the enemy from doing anything, since when the enemy actually does get to act, they tend to just outright kill half your team, as seen with Yremeryss (if you kill her with a non-burst attack anyway) or an unlucky low level red route encounter with multiple Bloodletters.

Well prologue done and I'm locked in, time to aoe expose weakness then drop a fat load of Promethium on the enemies.

Void Shadows starts pretty early on after the prologue (provided it's a fresh save). Anywhere after dealing with Eurac-V or the prison colony in my experience.
But yeah, doing a few bits in the Chapter's MQ should trigger it. Or making warp jumps.

Dog is unironically shit. Best is Officer + Servo Skulls because it turns Voice of Command and into an AOE and lets you double cast Bring it Down, close second is Raven for turning all your single target buffs into AOE's. Eagle is also pretty good since it can't die and just slams down a 80 damage blinding aoe once per turn for 1 AP.

Ship raid is one of the best mission in the game.
Tharessa is a fun new world to interact with and shows variety of Imoperium well.
Judgments and Lawtism in the rest of the missions are interesting too.
Ongoing plot and NPCs are good, but not as good as Void Shadows, same for overarching plot.
Solomorne lawtism is appreciated for his commentray and interjections, but his quests/standard events are not as interesting as Kibs.

Arbites and Overseer are not broken like executioner, but they are very fun options that add variety of builds and approaches in how you can break the game. Except for poor operative.

If Void Shadows is a 9, this is an 8.

Look for the colony projects that give rep. There are several that give 20k come Act 4. That coupled with the copious amounts of extra shit you get from the DLCs means you max out at least 2-3 as soon as you hit Act 4, and the rest follow swiftly.

So I hope we get something related to chasing Kunrad around, as for companions they have a couple of options but there are rumors of a cut companion that I would really like to see: originally a daemonette was going to be in the game for heretics.

Just finished my 2nd playthrough, first with the two DLCS. The arbiter dude sucks. The story was aight. Void Shadows was much better.

Nah. just understand that the 40k RPG system is all about alpha strikes and hitting as hard as possible as fast as possible.
there's no prebuffing or anything like that but fights tend to snowball hard one way or the other by design, long drawn out slugfests are rare unless the encounter is specifically made for that.
The game give you a last chance hail mary with the momentum system if you're losing which even further pushes the combat to be about either killing everything as hard as possible or getting you're ass whipped untill you can kill everything in a turn.

Officer into Grand Strategist is basically all about single and zone buffs along with giving allies extra turns. So yeah, you can definitely do that. Just a pick a companion you like and cuddle up.

Bring it down is one of the best abilities in the game since you can give a damage dealer another 2 action points and it's heroic/desperate version, Finest hour, is just a full turn with all Action Points/Move points restored.
So yeah officers are pretty fucking good. One companion, probably the most busted in the game, already comes preskilled as a officer as well.

I picked up this game in the summet sale. Chose commissar and warrior for my charactor. After act 1, I kind of familiar with the system and realize commissar sucks ass. I can only use at all costs once per fight. In addition, I either let my companions kill the target or shot them in the face for 1 ap.
I wish I chose psyker for those fancy weapons and abilities or officer for full support.

Big big problem with many modern crpgs. Pillars of Eternity 2 was the same. A true villain who has their own cutscenes and comes in to fuck with the protagonist along the way is always more memorable. I do. I might be biased because I just got done with several playthroughs of Wrath before returning to RT with Lex and the difference is like night and day.

I finished my first playthrough today and I'm really impressed by the enemy variety in this game. Usually in 40k games you get one chaos faction and one xenos faction to fight again but here we have all flavors of chaos, 3 major xeno factions and some minor xeno encouters as well and some cool renegades that are traitors to the Imperium but not chaos aligned
Really strong showing for their first 40K game I hope they keep this up with Dark Heresy as well

The worst instances come from traveling on the Koronus map, getting a story flag, loading on the bridge, loading a different room to talk to the NPC, loading back on the bridge, loading back on the star chart, traveling to your new quest location, loading the planetary map
That's at least 5 loading screens to START a sidequest

They are strong, especially the upgraded one that only needs 6 stacks. But the real fun begins once you get the trinket that boosts your medicae by 10 (or 15?) with every kill. And then suddenly everything on the map gets repeatedly hit for ever increasing direct damage. In that Hellbrute fight, literally only the Hellbrute itself was still alive with like 30% health, along with a CSM with 5%. All from one Carnival.

To add, I don't 100% understand how exactly the two interact either, but I got a rudimentary idea:
Say you got 40 enemies, you activate Carnival and spread all dots. What happens now is the game counts the first 6 enemies that get dots applied and triggers the visor. The baseline damage is ~25 DIRECT damage depending on how well you pumped Medicae beforehand. Then the next 6 get counted and the visor triggers again, for another ~25 damage. Chaff enemies tend to die at this point and you get 2xResolve to your medicae for EACH death, and suddenly the visor damage jumps to 50 or 60 or more, depending on high you pumped the Execs Resolve (and don't forget they got a talent that boosts resolve with each kill, too). And then it just keeps chaining until the room is dead.

The accessory, yes. But even without it you just need to hit a critical mass of enemies and you still wipe half the map. The accessory just drastically reduces the amount of enemies needed.
And there are two, the Goggles from Act 2 and the Visor from I believe Act 4. The goggles need slightly more stacks than the Visor.
You are probably better off clearing maps the normal way before act 2. Not like Executioners have any problems with that.

Then in Act 2 you're stuck forever with the Deadly Repeater from Explorators, and that does take a lot of Rep so you'll have to to some content first stuck with Longlas which is starting to really lack in damage, while Jae just instantly gifts you an amazing Aeldari one
Act 3 has literally nothing
Deadly Repeater at least is very good

Is there any good Aeldari weaponry feels like I'm forced to spec Yrlet with Drukhari stuff going totally against RP and lore if you have no plans to corrupt her. Same issue with Ulfar either Flamers or Heavy Bolter.
