Short games
Take the short game pill. You'll get more out of completing 30 short games in a month than you would from playing the same game for that whole time. 4-5 hours to 100% a game is more than enough time to experience everything that's good or bad or memorable about it. Playing the same game every day for months is autistic behavior.

Fun? Unique? Original high level concepts?

Not OP, but I played that. I think I should replay it soon, it got that big update recently.

You're onto something because I thought this was some recent boat game about pollution with a black and white filter on it.

If a game unabashedly looks like dog shit but still has very positive reviews you know it's actually fun to play. Play AAA slop if you care more about graphics.

Based it even has short in the name.

It looks a lot better with a ReShade CRT filter. I don't know why they didn't include one in the game itself, it's literally just black and white pixels.

Also recommending NeoDash, a car based platformer

Just full game online co-op. Have you tried his previous game, TresBashers? Great metroidvania about beating up cryptids.

It's not about the graphics it's about, maybe I'd say, the mental space inhabited by devs of short games

I usually don't start any game with a runtime longer than 15 hours. It's not a hard rule, I'm playing Death Stranding 2 and I'll play a lot of it, but it's safer than getting 30 hours in and "taking a break(you ain't coming back)".

Some short Metroidvanias by the same dev. It felt like the mechanics could have carried much longer games, which is one of the worst things about shorter games. If they're good you just feel like they ended too soon.

I did this after 80 hours in Okami and never finished it. 15 years later I still think about it. Why did the game have to be so long? I enjoyed playing but I don't remember it as a good game. I just remember those last 50 hours being an absolute slog.

Zortch, despite being only 25 levels, is unironically one of the best boomshoots of the last decade. It just nails everything that made those old FPSes fun. The weapons are impactful and fun to use, the enemies are acrobatic and fun to fight, the level design is solid and fun to navigate, and the movement is absolutely great. More games need to let you use your melee attack as a pseudo-airdash, it's so much fun every time. Plus there's plenty of level gimmicks to keep things fresh and none of them come off as frustrating or tedious. $5 for 10 hours of visceral joy is a great goddamn deal in my book.

This costs $2 during the summer sale and is MORE than worth that. I should replay it sometime, I never beat it on the hardest difficulty.
