I did a write up on it a while ago, ive read around 300 visual novels by now, mostly eroge. These were my issues.

The White-Haired Girl:
From the very start, this character repeatedly appears—not only to play a key role in the unfolding tragedy but also as a victim of it. Her presence invites speculation, especially once Michel enters the story. We begin to question who she really is and what her connection might be to the broader narrative. Yet in the end, it turns out she has almost no real link to Michel at all. She doesn’t resemble him because of some shared fate or ancient bond, or even a common curse. She simply chose to look like him after he happened to show up at the mansion and, apparently, inspired her. That’s it. Her identity boils down to a coincidence. She ends up being an abstract concept with a hollow backstory. The writers clearly didn’t know what to do with her. Her eventual reveal as the “purest” form of Morgana falls apart completely when you remember she literally attempted to murder Mell. That’s not purity—that’s just incoherent writing. Her entire character feels like one giant “just because.”

Michel and Morgana:
For the majority of the story, Michel is portrayed as the mansion’s first resident, a cursed figure, someone who calls himself a witch and shares traits with the White-Haired Girl—who is also labeled a witch. He supposedly arrives of his own free will, suggesting deeper significance. But none of that matters. Michel just randomly stumbles into the mansion. The witch? She just happens to be there, and her scattered “dust particles” just happen to decide to take on Michel’s form. Gisele? She just happens to arrive and gets picked as Morgana’s maid or servant. There’s no grand design, no shared fate, no intertwined histories. Everything is pure coincidence. The fact that Michel and Morgana have absolutely no past connection is one of the dullest ways this story could’ve unfolded—especially given how the narrative kept teasing that “everything is connected” and that there’s a deeper “story behind the story.” There isn’t. It all leads nowhere.

The Final Door:
This is hands down the most disappointing part of the story. It’s hyped as the moment that “changes everything,” but it ends up changing nothing. It tries to play with ideas like shifting perspectives, perception, and moral judgment, but fails to make any real impact. Take Mell, for example—we already knew he was kind-hearted, so of course he must’ve been coerced into helping. That’s not new information. Then there’s The Beast—before the Final Door, he was a man who killed slaves and severed Morgana’s arm. After the Final Door, he’s still a man who killed slaves and severed Morgana’s arm. Nothing changes. Even Morgana doesn’t forgive him; she just decides he’s suffered long enough. And then there's Jacopo, whose “twist” is painfully ironic. Learning he wasn’t the first lord means nothing when he ends up doing exactly what the first lord did: kidnapping Morgana, imprisoning her, and exploiting her blood. The only difference is he once loved her, years ago. If you removed the Final Door entirely, the story’s conclusion would barely be affected. It’s supposed to show that no one is wholly evil, but it fails to support that message in any meaningful way.

Don’t get me wrong—the game has its strengths. The soundtrack is beautiful, the art is stunning, and many of the isolated tragedies and love stories are genuinely moving. But as a complete narrative, it just doesn’t hold up—certainly not to the level of praise it often receives.

For me it's Muv Luv, mostly because it was my first big one. I know there's technically better stuff and the third game has a very weak first half. The addition of a second team was unnecessary baggage. But I just can't help loving it as a whole.
My top three would be that, Baldr Sky and Muramasa.
Maitetsu was a surprise sleeper I wasn't expecting to love, it was just so comfy. My only complaint was how the H scenes were separate from the story.
Made it too unnatural, I tried one or two and just couldn't get into them because they had no real connection with what was happening in the story.

Yes its objectively a major improvement over arc's and ciel's original routes, the thing is 40 hours long for 2 routes. Its might as well be a new story. Its very good but if you care about far side a lot, maybe wait but you also might be waiting for a decade. I wish I liked Muv Luv more than I did, the worldbuilding is excellent, the BETAs are a wonderfully terrifying invading force that feel distinct from typical hive mind swarm forces, the production values are top tier, the coup and Extraverse arc are fantastic, and I'm a big fan of slow burn zero to hero type development, but it just never comes together for me. Sadogashima is the only time the story lives up to its premise and scale, and then it just kinda rushes to the end with a wet fart final arc and ending. I was ready for Takeru to enter my GOAT protagonist hall after he returns, but I ended up finding him intolerably obnoxious in the second half and he never lives up to his potential.

A week ago I played the game "Hungry Lamb", I bought it a bit randomly, it's a Chinese VN, it was a very big success there though I don't think it is really known elsewhere. Did well enough to be getting some adaptations though.
It was quite good, the story surprised me quite a bit.

The kind with taste. Umineko and Higurashi actually share the same technical problems. The key difference is, Higurashi is good in spite of these and Umineko would be shit even if you fixed all the issues. The issues just elevate it to being one of the worst reads of all time. The game is very bad. It has entire entries that are entirely pointless, like Episode 5. The REASON there is butthurt directed at the fans, is because when people rightfully complained to him about his pseudo intellectual, contradictory bullshit his response was to throw a tantrum in writing in what is supposed to be the penultimate entry in the franchise. Contrast this to Higurashi, where at this point, you are getting an entire explanation of one of the best characterized villains in visual novels, as well as all the loose ends disappearing.

I could go into every little plot detail that makes it so, or complain about the entire premise of shit that later they tried to "fix" in the manga being idiotic, but it's a moot point. Most people in Asia already agree that it's fucking stupid. The only place this game gets any traction and fandom is in the west, because of trannys. Thankfully because of this it's largely ignored, but we still do get idiotic shit like that new Higurashi season.

Overall, I think Ryukishi is a pretty good writer, but as with any auteur if you leave them alone for too long they begin to sniff their own farts and make garbage and lash out at the world if they don't "get it" because it can't possibly be that they are just being an obtuse retard and telling a story extremely poorly.

Besides the one time in the hospital when he was a kid I don't recall him ever using his powers in a similar way, none of the characters except the final big bad are implied to be particularly durable or mobile to the point where one guy with the power to inaccurately fire a bunch of pistols at once is considered a heavy hitter, and him not being able to do that in his fights is his fault for not keeping a bunch on knives or grenades on his person for his fights.

Also as for your other points I don't remember his power having a range limit and his powers are shown to be really strong even as a kid with how he used them to kill that pedophile by mangling a piece of playground equipment into impaling him and he used it to collapse a large section the fence that was supposed to confine the prisoners on the island all as a child.

None of which implies they would be able to do anything if the mc used his powers to telekinetically hold a grenade in front of then then pull its pin or stab them in the back and front.

The mc clearly reforms metal without touching it in the scene where he jumps out a window and turns the metal in the windowsill into a rope while falling. From what I remember using his powers is shown to only require one on the threads that emanate from his hands to touch something. Its also never said that powers weaken from disuse or strengthen with use with the only way of improving them mentioned being the drug.

In the hospital scene its never implied that there was anything unusual happening with the mc and the only impetus for him killing all those people was the power suppression drugs wearing off and him being angry, with the narrator even mentioning how it was a bad idea to piss someone off with his powers in a hospital room full of scalpels and other surgical blades.

The biggest issue I have with Alternative is just how bloated the script is. There's a lot of over-explanation and scenes that go absolutely nowhere, which is compounded by the fact that the writers don't trust the reader to take in information without Takeru's internal monologue constantly repeating what was just said at you. Plus flashbacks to scenes that just happened. Eventually the writing taught me to just skim read until something important is said, but at the point you're doing that any impact is gone.

I think the scenario itself is interesting and the coup was definitely the best part but I had to put it down at the point you're doing simulated hive raids. Takeru repeating every single line just broke me and i couldn't go on

The problem with official english sciadv translations is them being made at different points in time by different not exactly competent people that don't consider the rest of the series when a particular entry is being translated. Resulting in further disconnect between the entries (be it stylistically or by mistraslating series-wide key concepts/terms).
CoZ patches fix the inconsistensies first and foremost.
Just go to a respective CoZ patch's page on their website and read what the patch entails yourself, if you are truly interested.

From the ones mentioned in this thread the best ones are Majikoi(common route is the best part though) and Dies Irae.

I know all this. But it’s Spike Chunsoft’s error for not providing necessary information to the teams they hire to translate the games to keep standardized terminology. And I assume the rushed nature of all the translations is their fault as well since it’s consistent across translation teams. But personally I don’t mind as long as the basic translation is fine. I can shrug off weird editing errors, and the occasional mistranslation. I’m used to it dealing with localizations in general. But as I’ve researched the games and played them, I’ve gotten the impression that people wouldn’t be in such a huff over the localizations without CoZ dousing the flames with gasoline with all their emphatic statements.
