They have no publisher stopping them from doing stupidass decisions. You see it in the game and how they handle community responses. The supposed reasoning for the censorship is because certain regulators want it censored, moderators have said it was not Sony, Microsoft, ESRB, or PEGI, but they won't say who. Part of the problem they have said is that they want a physical release. These agencies require harder regulations if it's physical. They have said the reasoning they want a physical release is to get their company name out there. I personally think it's all bullshit. They're done after Ready or Not, the game won't take a major hit because of the censorship, but there won't be a RoN2, not from VOID.

I don't know how much digital outpaces physical. I would hope VOID ran the numbers to see if going physical was worth it. I think it points back to them having no publisher. If they had a publisher they would have to told them physical is not worth the backlash. This is going to kill the developer's name on PC at the very least.

I would bet that it's the wild ego of whoever is in charge. A physical release makes them into a REAL GAME STUDIO not just some unknown studio self-publishing on steam. There might be some merit to console having a significant amount of physical sales compared to PC? But the game isn't going to fucking sell at all on console so the entire thing is a waste of time.
