Abusing contact damage is not an interesting way of adding difficulty to your computer game. Since this subreddit is horrendously brain damaged I shall tell you what I mean.
> Enemy has weapon
> Enemy throws itself into the player in order to deal contact damage instead of using said weapon
This is not enemy design; it is lazy hackery. You can cope, you can seethe, you can stamp your little feetsies in rage at my post, but that does not change the objective fact that I am correct. Also! (Also!) The game has poor hitboxes.

Cope. Australians have never made anything good. If Silksong is the game that everybody is looking forward to the. I'm afraid your medium is a joke. Sad state of affairs!

Explain why enemies moving around and dealing contact damage is bad in the context of Hollow Knight's gameplay.

You can't.

this is at most a minor aesthetic complaint and has very little bearing on the design of the game

Is this the first 2D game you've played?

>abusing contact damage
The appropriate amount of contact damage is zero

You could just learn the rules of the game.
You don't have to enjoy every game though, thanks for giving it a shot.

I'm glad that modern metroidvanias are starting to ditch contact damage and instead rely on enemies actually being threatening
Pic related has an entirely new set of enemies for each area and they are all fairly tough. Only a few of them have contact damage, and it's always indicated by spikes or worms coming out of their bodies.
HK feels like a relic of the past in many regards at this point.

What a shock.

Also, do you know what headbutting is?

You can't say that because a bunch of dudes wasted like 7 years on this shit and they basically had no life while making it. So everything about it is perfect.

Contact damage is literally an outdated concept and reeks of lack of skill on the devs' part any time it shows up, and I hate that the only time anyone ever admits it is when they're trolling.

Nine Sols also did this where there is no contact damage and some of the minor enemies are threatening. Lucky you can either use your bow to cheese them or use dodge to get past them.

It's to stop you from dashing through enemies so clearly it's doing its job in filtering you.

removing contact damage always makes games too easy since attacks should be telegraphed adding contact damage makes the movement more interesting
