As much as I want this shit to go through, I know it won't. I've seen so many of these "please give us X signatures and the billion-dollar company will actually listen to us this time we promise!" come and go and nothing ever comes of them. It's like a FOTM game; for a week it's super popular and has everyone talking about it and playing it, then it's time in the limelight is gone and nobody ever discusses it again. Remember REPO? Yeah, me neither!
If it passes, the companies will swear up and down that they won't heckin' pull the plug on their always-online shit, then they'll do it anyways.
If it fails, nothing will change and the status quo will be maintained.
NOTHING EVER HAPPENS

Looks like another article is out folks!
Gaming Journalists are doubling down on defending PirateSoftware and calling SKG a Gamergate movement.
>This is a massive win for fans of the movement, no doubt triggered by increased exposure from controversial content creators like PewDiePie, MoistCritikal, Asmongold and even Elon Musk. But at what cost..

Apple maliciously complied. A non Apple cable limits charges at 5W while an Apple branded cable charges at full speed.
Look at the DMA thing going around.

The video games industry will no doubt do the same with Malicious compliance, by making every game an expirable service.

i am fully convinced that reddit types were tricked into being 'anti-capitalist' (or, appearing that way, seeing as they have no real convictions)

because it makes others who are genuinely anti-capitalist look bad. nobody with any sense wants to be associated with fags and commies. it benefits the capitalists to have all of their opponents dragged down by that filth.

>batteries must be replacable
>phones must be repairable

This doesn't help video game preservation, it just allows sloppy games that nobody is playing to be forced to stay alive.
My proposal
>If a company goes under, they are forced to release all source code and assets
>If a game license is expired, it is required to upload as shareware
>All video games should be publicly available for purchase. As long as the company that developed the game still exists I should be able to buy it along with the original hardware

>please give us X signatures and the billion-dollar company will actually listen to us this time we promise!
It's a legal initiative requiring the EU commission to draft a response and solution to the problem. They do not have a choice but to do something. If the end result is not satisfactory then so be it, but they cannot simply ignore it.
>then it's time in the limelight is gone and nobody ever discusses it again
see above, people's interest in the initiative doesn't matter once it gets the required signatures
>If it passes, the companies will swear up and down that they won't heckin' pull the plug on their always-online shit, then they'll do it anyways.
And then be fined millions upon millions of euros until they plug it back in (whether that means getting servers back up or offering an offline version).
>If it fails, nothing will change and the status quo will be maintained.
Correct. But at least we'll know where we stand, and that not even the most consumer-friendly legislative body is willing to do the right thing.

SPOT THE SHILL

Corporate shills exist and they use a variety of rhetorical and psychological manipulation techniques to further their goal. These can include:

>Demoralization
Doomsayers. They pretend to be supportive of the initiative while talking about how much trouble the movement is in, or how they don't think it'll succeed.

>False calls to action
'What do you do? We have to do something! How do we fight back!?' If you see someone saying those things then they're a shill. It might be paired with a link to an article about how someone who supports the movement might be racist. They want people to overreact, overcompensate, make stupid decisions out of panic, and bring outside identity politics into the discussion to muddy the water. It's like when a cop, disguised as a protester, starts talking about everyone in the crowd needs to 'take action'.

>I support the movement, BUT
They'll give mild concessions, type well, and pretend to be on your side while expressing worry about semantic bullshit. Their job isn't to convince you, it's just to create the illusion of conflict within the community. It looks good to outsiders.

>Chudposters
They type shitty on purpose and talk about communism or whatever. Same job as previous example, they want to create an illusion of inner conflict. Or they're shitposting.
