I think the difference here is that no one is really expecting Bowser to get the Peach Bowl win without putting up a stink about Jr.'s existence. Implying Mario procreated and had a kid with Pauline kinda makes the chase to save Peach and the "Will they won't they" with Peach a little awkward. If we're to assume this is a sorta prequel to Mario Odyssey, then that make the ending implication of Mario asking for Peach's hand in marriage at the end all the more odd because this would mean he is trying to woo Peach as a married man with a child. Mario isn't getting a kid.

The biggest problem with this is that Nintendo does not care about continuity because they don't want new fans feeling like they've missed out or have to do a lot of research to understand a game that may be their first purchase in the series.

I'd say Jungle Beat counts as mainline. The whole beating the shit out of something at the end of a level originates from that game. It's just an arcade platformer with a weird hut effective control scheme. Heartily recommend it too.

play the Wii version if you plan on getting into Jungle Beat. It's a short game too, so you could finish it in a day.

honestly at first I wasnt sure about it, I didnt, as a 32 year old, see the point of the smashing stuff. As a kid or teen it wouldve been awesome, I spent probably 500 hours in the original red faction + guerrilla just smashing buildings, playing demolition crew, simulating a terrorist last stand by spending an hour just laying out cars with bombs and stuff in a parking lot of that one massive building up north, with carefully done, sledgehammering of the building so that when they pass the car park, and im done shooting I can lay a smack down and drop the building

fuck, I wasted so much time having fun blowing stuff up for no reason. DK is going to be a smash (kek) hit with kids or early teens for sure just for that.

But now im more interested in a challenging platformer, DK has more challenge than mario historically and unfortunately it looked like they had changed that. But then the latest direct happened, and I was sold. They showed hints of much harder later game levels and challenge rooms, the game was oozing style and soul. Game has a heart.

it may not be challenging but its definately going to be fun and soulful, it feels like a game from the 90s/00s.

The Mario series are a troupe of actors. Every game's story is either a play being acted out, a story being "read" via a book or tome, or is an outright stage play ala Mario 3.

Yoshi's Island is a prequel story played out after Yoshi made his "actorial debut" in Mario World. The babies are separate characters that may or may not be Mario and Peach's children. That's why they all co-exist in spin-offs

Guys, the creator of Mario himself, Miyamoto, has stated as such. To go against how he and by extension his peers see the characters is just silly, any narrative posed that is different from his is fanfiction. Once you realize and accept this it becomes a LOT easier to enjoy the Mario game storylines for what they are.

Though I'll admit when it comes to the more focused Donkey Kong games I'm not as sure if those are going by Mario logic or Zelda logic. K. Rool DOES serve as something of a perfect actor though, and if Bananza is truly poised to be part of the Mario stage play "canon" then that does mean all Donkey Kong games follow that mold as well which... I mean I kinda see it? Mostly only with K. Rool "changing costume" so to speak. Some people like to speculate there's two different Tiny Kongs in-universe lol
