It's like a pseudo roguelite, you start a new run selecting your horse girl and a Support Deck, the bulk of the gameplay is training your horse girl for 3 years, there are stats, skills and random situations that can happen, raising/lowering stats, causing status effects or affecting her mood. There are races too with different lenghts/terrain/etc, they run automatically and you just watch like a real horse race, but there's still strategy in the way you raise your horse girl.
In short numbers go big > your horse wins = hype

1 star horses are Hell Mode difficulty. King Halo and Winning Ticket are total shit.

Unlocking potential and adding stars are two different things. One is to unlock new personal skills while the other is to improve base stats+unlocking costume. But yeah all of Urara skills require her to be losing to activate but it's all stamina skills so it's really useless.

Those green skills might sound niche but they're 100% consistent and give a decent boost when it happens. Like I lost races just because it was raining and the NPC had "Wet Conditions", despite a decent Speed gap.
Also they can be a good "filler" for other active skills that have a requeriment of "If X number of skills are activated then this happens", and the most consistent for those are green skills.

Slightly higher starting stats.
If your uma is 1* or 2*, increasing their stars to 3* unlock their outfit and upgrade their unique into their proper unique skill.
After that, uncapping to 4* or 5* just default to giving your umas better starting base stats and level up their base unique skill.
Honestly speaking, anything after 3* is just cherry on top.

Been watching the anime and been really appreciating how they gave the respective trainers their own unique personality and appearance (unlike the BA adaptation, whose sensei looks like any generic salaryman).
