What was your first multiplayer game (online or local)?

Tekken 2. It doesn't hold up nearly as well as Virtua Fighter 1 or 2, any of the subsequent Tekken games or Soul Blade/Soul Edge, but it's still not half bad. The soundtrack is great, it has a cool roster and it taught me a bunch of 10-hit combos that still work in every following Tekken game.

I was pretty amused that I got a digital copy of it Fo' Free with my PS5. I was like
>oh yeah there's no way they would be able to actually get people to pay money for this in current year lol

Probably pong, but it's so long ago I'm not sure if it was that or double dragon. I was pretty young. Does Mario count?

Worms or NfS, or possibly even POD, sharing a computer. I have a distinct memory of my parents watching over me and my brothers shoulders as we played. My dad was very proud of the family computer since he and my mom stole it from my moms office when they were throwing them out god that was a good fucking computer for 1996, she worked for a tech company that made text editing software and helped develop the "WASD keys as substitute arrow keys" concept so they were really excited games were starting to adopt it for movement. I miss split screen PC games.

I honestly forgot about local multiplayer in FPS games like doing 1v1's or 4 player FFA's. I used to cherish and hope to get enough people for matches like that.
Why does it seem so rare now?

My fucking sides
Good idea though, fair play boys

First multiplayer? Probably one of the Medal of Honor games for the PS1, or some kind of racing/sports game. The first one I went real hard into was Tekken 3, played with a few friends and one of their older brothers who taught us stuff. He was nice enough not to shit stomp us too often

Damn I didn't even consider arcade games. Dad would burn through $5 every time we saw one of those Area 51 cabinets, he fucking loved that silly ass game and so did I. We never got good at it though, I don't think we beat it once

My first real vidya was Pokemon Blue which is technically multiplayer, but I never battled other people.
The oldest game I can clearly remember playing with someone was Kirby Air Ride with my bro, but we probably played some shit like Micro Machines on the N64 too.
I remember some other racing game we'd played that I figure was on N64 but I genuinely have never seen it since I was a kid and could barely even describe it at this point. All I remember is that there was a track where you're racing in the trees or something and there was another part where you were in an indoor skate park with power ups. I'm half convinced it doesn't actually exist.

Worms 2 I think.
