minecraft for building and exploring terrain and world, terraria for shooting at shit and exploring for cool items.

minecraft has rpg-ified itself slowly but surely over the years. terraria has been largely consistent in its goals of combat/progression first and building second. sure, there are some cool 2d builds, but it's rarely ever the focus for most players and almost always a means to an end.

Minecraft if you're an autist who just wants to build mega structures. Terraria if you want a game with actual gameplay and progression. It's pretty hard to compare the two directly because they're so radically different beyond the extremely basic notion of "you can mine blocks and place them elsewhere."

The only thing Minecraft has over Terraria is a third dimension to build in and a whole lot of empty space, letting you build things like massive cities and stuff.
As an actual game, there's nothing to compare. Minecraft is a game that was hardly developed in its over fifteen years of existing, while Terraria is designed to be a game and has kept improving even to this day.

I dislike how Terraria becomes just a bosh rush once you beat the mechanical bosses. Really sucks the fun out of it.
