Ys I+II Chronicles+ is worth the price of admission for the soundtrack alone. The spritework and waifus are a bonus. Hearkens to the good ol days when you were just a bad ass slaying legions of the dark lords armies to save maidens.

The first game on the hardest difficulty is a crazy fun challenge.

Afterimage is for those that want a Metroidvania as fuckhuge as Hollow Knight. The plot and world lore are hard to parse and it's told badly with what I suspect is shoddy translation, but the environs and characters are all beautiful and I can't emphasize enough how big this game is. It can easily take 40 hours to reach just one of its many endings and then there's an entire post-game segment with new areas to complete after that and THEN you switch back to the main game once its complete to unlock the true ending.

Freedom Planet: Just imagine you took designs and edgy plot from SatAM and gave it Mega Man X and Sonic 2/3/K gameplay with 3 characters to play through the game with whose abilities vary more widely than Sonic/Tails/Knuckles. I actually saw another anon try to shill this two days ago or so and I agree that it should be way more well-known.

personally i quite liked it, the combat feels really shallow till a certain point when you get double the powers. the artstyle and music are superb, story is pretty basic.

if you play it play as yuito first, as the kasane route focuses on filling the gaps of the yuito route

Long Live the Queen is a VN/Simulation heavily inspired by the Princess Maker franchise. It is trial and error gameplay and an absolute nightmare to try to get to one of the good ends and keep all the death routes in mind and remember what dialogue choices to avoid and where to put your stats, but the death scenes are actually funny or appropriately tragic and you get achievements for seeing them all and it becomes weirdly addictive to brute force your way through the game. I've only played the first Princess Maker, but it's miles better than that since the main character isn't a blank slate.

I shilled this company's even lesser known game in the first of these threads we did and I'm taking the opportunity to shill A Little Lily Princess again in this thread even though it doesn't count for the thread requirements.

Underrail is supposedly a Fallout clone, but I didn't get far into the original Fallout games so I couldn't tell you. What I can tell you outside of namedropping classics is that it has a surprising amount of depth (heh) in its lore and gameplay and that might not be obvious in the first few hours. The first few hours involved me asking myself if I wanted to drop it and I'm glad I didn't because the game is crazy huge and very rewarding. It's just like Afterimage where I didn't realize what I was getting into. I put 140 hours into one character to kill the "last boss" and do both DLCs and apparently there's a major questline that I didn't do and a whole other almost easter egg questline for finishing the game as a mutant on top of hidden optional bosses on the harder difficulties. Leveling up is fun and there are is a lot of skill variety and it's just fun as hell exploring and finding new loot to accent your build. Me personally, I suck at builds and refuse to look shit up and take the fun out of it and just put my skills where I thought I would need them to overcome the next challenge and had fun save-scumming and getting roflstomped by a certain infamous endgame area.

And yeah, the lore and backstory go bonkers at some point and the game doesn't tip its hand about what's going on leading to some fun speculation in UR threads.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/250520/UnderRail/

All I got for today, hopefully OP's thread stays bumped.

I will shill Atomfall here in that case. I know it was on a showcase but it's still only got around 2.5k reviews. While admittedly a mid Far Cry-esque game, it's been fun having to find ways to uncover the various rumors.
The Druids can suck my ass though. I've been killed in their section so many times.

Start with Oath in Felghana. Then, if you liked that, go with Origin and/or VI: The Ark of Napishtim. Then you can try Ys I & II Chronicles(the original combat system is wildly different than the rest in the series, and probably not a good place to start out with. But the bump system is still fun). Then you can pretty much try the rest of them in any order.

I love all of them but start with VIII for a more modern 3d game or Oath in Felghana for an older style game
1+2 are great but I don't recommend starting with them. origin is arguably the best but 1+2 should be played first
they're all standalone (except 1+2) so you can play them in any order or even just play one if you want. play VIII

There's a lot more people playing vidya and on steam than ever. 2000 is relatively few. Consider something like Noita, a quite niche indie game has over 70 000 reviews. That's still quite a small number in the grand scheme of things. Gta V right now has 1,8 million reviews on steam. Helldivers 2 has 750 000. 2000 is nothing really

Legionary's Life
Roguelite where you follow 3 campaigns of a legionary. I like it because of the setting and because on the first run, you can very easily die if you're overconfident, so you learn to keep your head down. But then on subsequent playthroughs, when you know the events and stuff, and get some upgrades from meta progression, you can be the big swinging dick who takes out an entire phalanx by yourself
There's some minor randomization in small events that happen as you rest, but all the battles are the same each run

>I expect you to die
A VR puzzle trilogy where you're a secret agent man, you sit down and the levels have you not move out of your seat (although in a few of them the seat might move slightly, not enough to make you sick though) you've got telekinesis to grab distant objects, leans comedic but not obnoxiously so, still if you want something super serious it's not for you
>Asterigos Curse of the Stars
soulslike of sorts where you enter a lost city, a word of advice there's a boss early on that might seem impossible to jump over a shockwave attack of his, it is indeed impossible you are meant to iframe dodge through it, the ability to jump at all was added after release so the fights weren't designed around it
>nebelous fleet command
a hardcore spaceship fleet combat command game
>mind over magic
A magic school building game, you build from a side on cross section perspective
>last train home
tactical war game about some people taking a train home through a country in the middle of a civil war after the end of the first world war
>hidden deep
delve into an ungerground bunker system deep under the ocean, they were saying they were going to add the co op it should have launched with but I think it ended up only local (although there is that steam remove play thing), technically still in early access and it seems abandoned
>Encased: A Sci-Fi Post-Apocalyptic RPG
A sort of fallout like CRPG where you're stuck in a dome
>lost ruins
very slightly erotic metroidvania, can't turn it down to normal if you get filtered by hard, gotta restart the whole game
>Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery
operatan tactics game with supernatual elements, connected to the girls frontline gacha franchise
What the fuck how is world of goo under 6000 reviews
>Fate/Samurai Remnant
A musou of sorts but it's Fate
>succubus
action spinoff to that disaster Agony Game, make sure you get the free uncensored DLC

Most of the characters are not really characters, they are just generic soldiers you can recruit like XCOM. There are only two actual main characters and she isn't one. And the gameplay is great for an XCOM clone, they really tried to adapt the GoW gameplay and mechanics to a turn based format.

>forewarned
Phasmophobia but delving into egyption tombs, what I would consider an early access success story it actually got decent updates at a decent pace, has VR support but the one time I tried it I had issues with being too tall and not being able to pick dropped tools off the ground
>the headliners
friendslop like lethal company or R.E.P.O, play as journalists trying to get good photos as shit hits the fan
EDF6 falls under 6000 I bet they really regret killing the PC release in its crib like they did with the epic stuff it's not there anymore though

There's difficulty settings and modifiers. Try Maniac Mode or one of the harder difficulties like Inhumane Odyssey without using the Dimensional Vault. The game is all about replaying, there's endings that are more challenging to get like the Demon Lord's ending. I know how people feel about Achievement fags, but it's one of those cases where Steam Achievements are a good guide of things to aim for if you want to challenge yourself on replays.

>How's Rogue Legacy 2 compared to first one?

its one of the few games where i say:
>this makes the first game obsolete

the only other sequel i consider this improved is Legend of Grimrock 2

keep in mind, the combat is nothing like DMC, its closer to something like say, shovel knight, its more about platforming to evade blows, jumping on enemies, using the environment to block projectiles, that kinda thing

so for comparison, while a boss fight in VS might take place in a simple arena and test your dodge/block timing while waiting for the perfect chance to strike

a boss fight in RL2 is going to take place in an arena full of platforms where you will constantly be evading projectiles

but there IS a lot of oportunity for skill expression, theres lots of different classes, and with each of them you have "skill crits" meaning if you perform an sttack in a specific way, you deal more damage, testing positioning and timing

for instance, the knight deals a skill crit when he attacks while dashing, the samurai deals a skill crit when you hit someone with the very tip of your sword, the ranger deal a skill crit when you fire your charged arrow shot at a precise moment

its cool

It's okay, combat is kinda fun when you get more powers and abilities. Story is average at best and some interesting plot points were dropped either due to the rushed development or the writers forgot it.
There were a few free updates that added more contents so that's kinda nice, give it a try if it's cheap

Exploration is great. You'll notice a whole lot of the negative reviews on steam are midwits bitching that the game is too big and they got lost as if that isn't the entire point of a metroidvania. You have a ton of different areas and biomes, literal dozens of boss fights, loot, collectibles, bestiary and item volumes to fill out, NPCs to quest for, to explore to your hearts content.
For combat you have different weapons you can equip which will severely change your approach to enemies. There's a skill tree with new moves to learn for weapons, and you eventually learn magic which can be used as a combat type in and of itself. You have a definite reason to switch your weapon often whether it's situational or you find one that is OP.
The game's platforming is comparable to the rest of the genre. Meaning, it's there, you discover your double, triple jumps, your dash, your wall jump and utilize it all to go off the beaten path for treasure. If you're looking for segments like Hollow Knight's White Palace or Path of Pain, they're not here.

Eh, I'll give it a go then.
If all of that is true, it seems a bit underrated. I've played metroidvanias with more glaring flaws and higher score.
The only things i can think off that might tank the score are technical issues and bad game design, like say, bad or sparce bonfire placements, which would suck big time on a game this big.
Or maybe shit translation, given it's a chink game, but i don't much care about lore anyway
