I've played every play test so far and let me tell you, it's turned to Fortnite cartoony style in like, the last 2 playtest. it's unreal how bad it just suddenly became.

The map still is unchanged in size and the only other area in the playtest is the tutorial place.

in the early playtest the game just had big skate jams like public events popping up on the map, and honestly if they are gonna do always online service shit that was as fun enough as it needed to be.
now you have to opt in to everything in a group and guess what? no one does. i'm stuck on a mission to do co-op activities and literally can't lol. the one time someone accepted my party invite, the game completely bugged out and i had to alt-f4.

monetization aside, even in game funbux purchases are random loot boxes. you can't just buy the shit you want. maybe you get the griptape or shoes you actually want, maybe you get some fluff literally no one cares about like a profile icon. "engagement metrics", i guess.

honestly the city is pretty good. not the realistic vibe of Skate 1, but as a giant skate themepark city, its good.
the skating is also ok in some areas. i really like how you can just steer out of grinds and do slappies on curbs. since popping out of grinds/slides is often to high and unrealistic.
but in general it is more towards arcade-y, probably even more than Skate3. and there's a bunch of "stunt" slop because haha funny physics slams.

the aesthetics, yeah no need to add more said already, you already know its soulless gender-neutral everything and the mission NPCs are literally AI robots or HR plants. i literally do not know who the vibe would appeal too. not skaters and not general gamers either.

Funny you mention that, because I’m still baffled how after years of play testing nothing really changed. In fact it seems to appear that they’ve even removed content. What the Tony Hawk games did for skateboarding was incredible at the time and Skate 1-3 are in my opinion the last truly next-gen games. They did something radically different to what came before, genuinely new and innovative. The physics, controls, customization and community, everything. That was 18 years ago. Tony Hawk was 25 years ago. But their success has trapped you all in this corporate hellscape, for some it's probably all you know.

It actually makes me more confused than angry. There have been plenty of times that a series has been dumbed down for mass appeal, but that isn't even really what's happening here. Nobody who liked the Skate trilogy wanted Skate 4 to be like this, and the audience that actually plays games like this isn't really interested in Skate. There's no real audience for it, which is why it will die within months if not immediately. This whole thing reeks of a bunch of out of touch old fucks in a board room trying to maximize the profit from an old series without understanding anything about it. I wouldn't be surprised if EA shuts down the new studio that made it and never touches Skate again, not even for a modern port of the originals.

oh sure, on that level i get where you're coming from. but i still think those people were pretty delusional if they really thought a social media campaign to get a new Skate game, was going to end up turning out well for them and what EA were ever going for with Skate 4.

again, i've also been in since the early tests and doubt my feedback is worth a shit. my only hope is to get the freemium shit and lifeless dull aesthetic out the way as much as possible so i can at least enjoy the core Skate experience in there a bit, maybe make a few montages (which is in there, the core formula with the controls and more grounded feel of the franchise compared to THPS has always been good) - although as the tests go on i doubt more and more, that i can even get that much out of it.
