It's alright. Playing warrior never gets old but there's still too few skill slots.
But that's the least of the combat's problem. The biggest problem is that the game has no enemy variety. At all. And that's not even taking into if you played 1 before, there's fuck all enemies to fight after the first few hours. The first time you decide to kill a drake it's fucking great, but then you get overpowered and the just stops being fun, because it's just too fucking easy.

Had the "Dragons dogma II" title drop been the mid point of the game with nothing but new enemies i would've kneeled. But now it's just OK. And that's not a good fucking thing

Only somewhat redeemable part of the game and still could have been much better

It's not good. Some parts felt better than DD1 but enemy design was so bad the whole game is just bland. Total flop

I played the first game and enjoyed sniping things with my longbow and magic bow, especially flying fucks like dragons, griffons and harpies. Can I do the same on the sequel or did they somehow manage to nerf them or make them less fun?

It's pretty good, but wasted on the game since it's way too easy and the enemy variety is absolute shit.
A good third of the classes are still shit

Absolutely nailed it, anon. It’s like they learned nothing from DD1's pacing. The combat system has all the tools to shine-climbing monsters, physics-based hits, mix-and-match vocations-but then they throw you into a world devoid of actual challenge or interesting enemy AI. Instead of building up to late-game horrors or new enemy archetypes post-title drop, they just keep recycling the same damn goblin screams and ogre animations from hour 5 to 50. It’s soul-crushing. I don’t want *another* chimera fight on Breakwater, Capcom, I want to feel dread when something new lands on the cliffside.

Could've been game of the decade if they had pumped variety into it. Instead, it's like they gave us gourmet seasoning but only let us have rice.

Pretty good, but it never comes together in the way I would have wanted
It feels like most of the time you're just throwing out moves and hoping one of your pawns draws aggro if you're trying to charge something up. I never really feel like I'm engaging or reacting with enemies in this game, I'm either one shotting them or climbing on their back to hit their head and kill them while they're stunlocked into recoil animations.
Among the many things I wanted from the first game, I would have liked some more ways for enemies to focus on the player directly while giving them tools to dodge/parry/respond with intent in some way, but instead the game's still mostly a free for all and it's so easy that you don't even have to care about what anything is doing

It's a lot of fun, but the stagger is fucking insane. Playing this game without pawns (and without dwarvenforged armor) must be torture, puny fucking goblins will knock you off guard and stunlock you, then kick you to death. DD1 was a lot more reasonable, really only heavy attacks would stun you, for the most part, and armor mattered a lot.

Just mod it
Same problem was in dd1 during early game where every basic bandit can know you down mid combo especially if you're strider

I never felt the need to mod DD1, which can easily be sequence broken for the opposite effect anyway. Never had that issue after learning the bandits on the way to witchwood get replaced by wolves at night.
