I do wish Valve would release a legacy Steam client that simply unpacks their games and maybe downloads them without any other support for OSes they've moved on from. Anyone choosing to use it is operating at their own risk and as-is. If it breaks then Valve can't be called upon to fix it but at least it's out there for people who have an older PC for an express reason.

Heck, they could even open source it so the community could maintain its compatibility and fix issues with it.

I used it during the transitional period when they came with Big Picture. Nowadays BP is much better, largely because of the success deck. But back then it was creeping with crap features and less customization. But that was because of CS. I started using it again because of a friend of mine, but I understand the feeling.
