Mass Effect 2
The story was FINE, and the only reason it's not the poster-child anymore is because it didn't represent all you gay people by being made for straight-normies.

Peak of the series
>but muh reapers

It was the best one.

Poster child for what? The franchise that only has 4 mainline titles in it?
Even for me, someone who hasn't played a single ME game, 2 is the definitive poster child for the franchise.

It was the worst one because it perfectly showcased everything wrong with the series and its trajectory and people applauded

Its the best in the series, not sure why you feel the need to defend it

Everywhere you go you still see ME3 art as the "face of the series" even though it looks the most generic and "AAA-ified" Looks like a fucking B-grade hollywood film.

If all we had were 3 Mass Effect 1's it would've remained a coomer nerd series that never sold over 1 million as the sequels came out, and it would've been buried and forgotten completely.

No it wasn’t. It was fucking retarded and contrived. The reason people liked it was because most didn’t play 1 first, the party members were overall more fleshed out and likeable, and because the character responsible for delivering the most egregiously stupid parts of the plot was incredibly well voiced and designed

I think it’s good. The main issue is the gameplay. So bland. Definitely the worst of the franchise in this regard after the remaster of ME1.

The story is fine, but the squad mates are annoying edgelords and having to detour from the collector threat so they can address their past traumas is truly guy shit for babies, appropriate since the game dumbed down all the powers and became a generic cover shooter with universal ammo cartridges

I played 1 first. 2 was just a better game. The gameplay was better and the characters were great. The plot maybe wasn't as interesting, but it was bolder in adding nuance to the human-centric faction.

>Gameplay so bad
I think it's better than 3. Much better encounter design here, with good use of far-distance enemies on balconies, making it more of a "shooting gallery" and also parts that are tower-defenses where staircases behind you allow enemies to break through the fort and ambush you.
Mass Effect 3 has improved AI and better character mobility, but they mostly spawn enemies in numbers in front of you in a way that feels kind of home-made like it's an indie game. I thought 2 had much more thoughtful encounter-design.

I love the lore, thus the "backstory" of ME1 and while the main plot gets exciting after Virmire, about 50% of it is plodding and uninteresting, and really poorly written drama IMO. Very "leftist" writing in general where there's no semblence of rhetoric and a sense of the writers getting their own thoughts confused.

In that sense ME1 felt cookie cutter and overly basic to me. ME2 feels more believable, but ME3 is back to feeling rhetorically confused as 1 but superficially retains the more "believable" style of writing but it just kind of sucks in comparison. The writing is the least cringy in 2, I find.

I like ME2 a lot but ME1 was great for establishing the universe in a really easy breezy way while still having a basic blockbuster retard plot anyone half paying attention could follow. You couldn't have had slick ME2 writing that takes the world for granted without ME1. I don't like hearing people shit on 1 for the sake of 2 or 2 for the sake of 1.

Nobody put a gun to Bioware's head and said it had to end on 3, they were just high on their own farts and thought they could be both a AAA corporate drone shithole AND able to poop out new franchises at will so they could flush one if they wanted

since when?
i mean 1 was always the best but most people liked 2 because it was more polished

It's a fucking awful game both mechanically and narratively and it ruined Mass Effect. Fuck Cerberus and fuck (You).
