Do it like Namco with SC6 and decanonize every game that proceded UMK3

The main thing with the MK universe is that people constantly die in brutal ways, only to then seemingly be fine, which is literally perfect for roguelite game design, where your run dies but other things persist. Alternatively a souls-like could work too.

Also fuck the multiverse shit. The last game dropped off after the events of the mk2 and even ends up with a sequel bait with quan chi picking shinnok's amulet, so go on from there story wise. I don't care if its been done a thousand times already.
Gameplay wise it just needs to be a fun as fuck beat em up like the first game. Online co-op is a must have but it would be nice if the playable duos have their own separate campaigns.

It doesn't even need to be that - They're actually pretty good at adapting their lore to new genres if Shaolin Monks is anything to go by, and it's been clear for a really long time now that besides the gore, they really like their cinematics and story-telling. They also clearly like messing around outside their comfort zone (Kombat Kart lol).
Rather than a sequel, they could easily do a Shaolin Monks remake, but like I said before a souls-like could work, a rogue-lite could work, hell I'd be up for an MK metroidvania

I liked the casual ps2 era games, unironically. Shaolin monks was awesome, one of my favorites. I also really liked the konquest modes for deception and armageddon. I had some fun playing casually with friends too. Apparently those games are a completely unbalanced mess and goddawful competitively, but who gave a fuck, they were fun. Fighting games now have become this autistic no nonsense e-sport trash so it's time for mortal kombat to embrace what it truly always was, a casual story driven series, and make a fucking single player game.
