Whos betting it'll have action combat, and also not meet sales expectations. You'd think by now they'd learn people want turn based or at least ATB.

What happens if FF17 is a turn based game and still doesn't meet expectations? What'll be the excuse?

Pretty sure ffxv and xvi did meet sales expectations it’s just xv was so wildly panned because of the missing story and sub par game play that it honestly soured a lot of people so fbi didn’t do gain busters. I know I almost didn’t get xvi until I heard who was doing the music. And the last ATB main line ff game was 16 years ago anon it’s time to let that shit go.

I'm pretty sure FFXV sold really well because of muh open-world meme, despite it being dogshit.

I think the combat is pretty good, but I want more RPG mechanics, like Dark Souls choosing which stats I level and something like the Materia system.

I don't think FF should go back to turn-based at this point it would be too weird,

I ALSO WANT MORE CUTE GIRLS

FF16 is severely lacking in the cute girls department, 15 had Lunafreya and Iris

And MORE WHIMSY

>le westerners
When will you brownfags stop seething over the superiority of white people and their culture?. Maybe FF 15 and 16 flopped like a boulder sliding down Mt.Everest because they were BAD GAMES nobody, ESPECIALLY white men, wanted to bother with. FF16 is a boring walking simulator and a dollar store knockoff of Game of Thrones, which itself is below average at best. The problem isn't "action combat", the problem is EVERYTHING THE FUCK ELSE.

It's lacking in everything that's not cooldown based combat or QTE boss fights.

Just make it turn based just for once you retarded chinks. You tried your action sloppage, now at least try turn based once. Not pseudo turn based like Rebirth, full on classic gameplay.

Because 15 and 16 had BAD action combat, so even action game fans weren't interested.

It sold thanks to a 10 year hype behind Versus XIII, which was probably one of the most anticipated FF games ever.
Shame it was but a shell of what was supposed to be.

my ideal for FF would be a mix of 7R and FFXV where you can position your characters and dole out light attacks or take advantage of traversal mechanics for chip damage but enemy attacks are either unavoidable entirely or difficult to dodge/parry and you need to engage with the ATB system in order to do real damage.
XV was close to nailing this but they fucked it up to make it more of an action RPG and 7R didn't lean heavy enough into turn based dynamics.

ideally in a setting that's similar to FFVII or FFX in terms of being equal parts technological and fantastical

That's a long-winded way of saying you just want FFXV but with a real combat system.

i had issues with the worldbuilding in XV, mostly in the sense that it was very realistic and they heavily limited the plot as a result, barely delving into shit that would be "high power level" like bahamut.

>>714997105
in my head i was thinking. XV's hold-x-to-dodge mechanic but implimented well, not e33's not-persona with QTE's system.

the current leadership at Square will keep making action combat FF games that flop one after the other until they're ousted because making a successful turn based FF game would prove them wrong and Jap executives would literally rather die and/or tank the company than admit they were wrong about anything

Square Enix isn't retarded. They lost a lot of money on FF16 and FF7R, while also earning a healthy profit from turn based games (Octopath, Bravely Default, etc.). There's no way SE is retarded enough to ignore all of their high profile failures, and ignore all their recent successes at the same time... right?

As an older zoomer it was wild seeing this big franchise I was a ton about online fade away in real time.
When i was in Grade school 13 came out and was so massively panned that even the nerdiest kids at my school payed it no mind.
Nobody talked about 14 at all and I had an uncle and cousin into MMOs
Then in high school 15 came out and there was a lot of hype, we were old enough to really engage with the series and all of us bought 15 when it came out... And every single guy who bought it in my school, which was an accelerated learning school with a really fucking high density of nerds shrugged the shoulders at the experience. Like one or two guys talked about the DLC but there was no passion for the game and by the time the book was announced everyone had soured on it.

Then it took 7 years for 16 to come out. So I get why they decided to chase modern trends, since most gamers under the age of 30 gives a shit about the series. I don't think it worked anymore than 14 becoming popular did but I get it.

people don't like modern FF because the game sucks and the aesthetics are aimed at the women obsessed with k-pop boy bands. square admitted years ago that majority of FF player base is women.

>the series was consistently some variant of turnbased for the vast majority of the entries and for the majority of the franchise's existence
>the most successful and popular entries were also all some variant of turnbased
>but square enix now refuses to make final fantasy turnbased anymore
>and nu"fans" act as if turnbased gameplay is archaic and bad, and defends square enix when they refuse to make turnbased final fantasy
Why is this?
