late medieval/renaissance armor could stop musket fire, and a well made suit would likely stop most pistol calibers and maybe even shotgun slugs, but not modern rifles.
modern armor is categorized based on what its rated for. lvl1 plates can stop some pistol calibres while lvl4 plates are rated up to battle rifles and most ap rounds below battle rifles.

Pretty much all of the armor in Nioh is a good balance of verisimilitude and style. Not lot of it is historical but a lot of them are close enough that they're recognizable, while also looking good on their own.

6 recovered, imo. Not for every character, but they pulled back a lot of the excess of 4 and 5. SC2 is the best overall for sure though, with some excellent designs in 3. SC3 Default Yoshi is my favorite look of his.

If the Carian Knight set didn't have that dumb antenna, it'd be the best armor they ever designed.
