In DeS it straight up passed through shields. In DS1 it did pure magic damage and had S INT scaling. It used to be buffable in 2, but now it's just powerful instead of totally broken. In DS3 it had an extra, pretty underrated move. It's great in all the games, especially given greatswords are already a good weapon class

Yup, the magic damage is quite good if you've got the right build. The projectiles need quicksilver bullets but they come out very quick since you don't need to do a fully charged attack to fire them. The actual L2 skill is a big thrust with AoE.

Before Elden Ring got rid of weapon durability completely, the wave effect would degrade the weapon considerably. Nothing too annoying, you just had to repair it with souls, but it put a hard limit on its uses as a ranged weapon.

Elden Ring's system is a good take on the sword, but I will admit I was hoping to see a version in teal show up in SotE.

I'm pretty sure that's 2 forward, in DeS and DaS you had to get your shit fixed, and in DaS they introduced the various bonfire boxes, that let you repair and (mostly) upgrade your weapons and armor from the bonfire. It is quite fun, but you also have to be the type to enjoy wandering around on your own and doing stuff of your own volition.
You have to like the gameplay itself to enjoy it, mostly.

I'm doing a playthrough as an INT spell blade with a spear and a stave, and it is pretty fun right now and I have a lot of flexibility on how I tackle problems.
