Grace was originally going to be what Rose ended up being, Ethan's daughter, but was left in the concept stage and is now being repurposed as Ashcroft's daughter instead, presumably to tie into the whole Raccoon City revisit thing since the Outbreak cast were a big part of that initial storyline.
