The first goal is just to survive. The next goal is to thrive. As you build up more and more the value of your colony grows, attracting bigger and bigger threats. So overall the goal is survival, but the ultimate goal is to escape the planet. Remember, all the starting scenarios involve you crash landing on the planet. A world on the rim of interstellar human civilization. You're not suppose to want to stay there, but to escape to more civilized worlds. Hence the quest that always pops up about the ship. Survive, thrive and escape is how you have fun with the game

You install Rimjobworld.
You make a harem in the forest with all of your favorite video-game girls.
You nut 15 times and don't play the game for years until the craving comes back.

it can be fun if you accept your losses and just let shit happen but sadly the only way the game has of making you lose is spawning a bunch of invincible enemies right on top of you so there isn't much potential for emergent gameplay outside of the mental break mechanic

You'll get invested in your own story once you git gud. You will sound like an absolute lunatic if you try to describe these stories out loud to anyone who doesn't play, but you'll have a lot of fun in the moment, and that's all that matters. Work your imagination and you'll have a great time.

You're too stupid not to save thumbnails, you lack the intelligence to ever understand (not that rimworld is a particularly high iq game or anything)
