I actually just bought the Legion Go S since Best Buy had the Z2go Windows 32gb / 1tb version for $50 less than the 512gb OLED. Plan on installing steamos on it when it gets here. Yeah. I find a lot of older games have interesting or even necessary mods, and it's not really much work to set up most of them on the deck (many might need just a single rote startup option that injects DLLs).
It's a stable platform for your less demanding steam games. I have both a Deck OLED and Switch 2, and both devices get plenty of screentime during the month. I'll use one more for one or two weeks depending on what I wanna play. That's how it was with my Switch and Deck, and it's remained the same now.

I got one semi-recently and I like it. I had a Switch 1 and enjoyed playing handheld around the house but hated the library and prices. With Deck, I have all my steam games and new games are usually cheaper, or I can pirate. Performance is pretty good for what it is. I'm playing Elden Ring on high with pretty minimal frame drops; it helps that you have PC graphic settings in games, so you can tweak individual things like shadows. Plus, unlike the Switch 2, you can share your saves between your main PC and your deck. For me, this is perfect because the only time I really take it out is on my train commute; I can be playing Death Stranding at home, grab my deck on the way to work, and continue pretty seamlessly. This ended up being a huge thing I never thought about before buying, it's extremely nice to have, especially for more graphically intensive games where you may want better performance for most of your playthrough. Form factor and quality of parts are good (although I think the left mousepad should have been above the left stick), but, unless you have the expendable income, I would take the cheaper model over the OLED. I got OLED because I had fuck you money from my bonus, but it's really not worth spending an extra $200 imo. Overall, I give OLED 7/10, other models 8/10, but you need to really think about how much you play on your PC.

There's a ton of variability in the battery life based on the settings you turn on (like a PC, you can prioritize battery life vs. performance) and the game you are playing (obviously a 2025 AAA is going to drain battery faster than a 2017 AAA). Yes. It plays basically everything. Switch 2 can only play and do a tiny fraction of what the Deck can and is significantly worse as a handheld. Valve's support for it is also far better, plus there's community support.

The problem is even this kind of thing isn't true anymore. Optimization for specific consoles used to mean improvements to performance without just sacrificing visuals. Now they just nuke the the settings below even the lowest pc settings and call it a day. We can't even get an equal comparison between the s2 and deck in handheld mode because cp2077 in s2's handheld mode is locked to lower than the lowest deck settings and the deck still beats it.
