Minecraft as he designed it is already like 99% compatible with SKG. It would be trivial to provide a final patch to disable the login requirement if the game ever ends support.

If a game gets to the point that the owner shuts down online functionality, they are already making zero profit, so it doesn't matter to them what happens regarding server software, lack of moderation, loss of profit, etc.
