Also, it already had media relevancy in Japan by the time EoE came out, judging by the amount of supplementary media in the form of games by the time Front Mission 3 was just starting production which I've already posted

That's not even related to what we're talking about. That doesn't mean some person who was a fan and working on this game wouldn't put an homage to it in-game. It's also from the same company that had a giant ass Eva reference in the form of Xenogears so I doubt that many people were turned off of it barring the most extreme otakus if that game was a commercial hit in both Japan and America. Even EoE was well received for the most part in Japan and most of its controversies came from the scene of Shinji masturbating over Asuka, the OG ending being so shit and the over the top violence, not all this deconstruction bullshit.
