Modern GPUs run modern games at 1080p hallucinated up to 4K by DLSS or FSR anyway so why not just stick to 1080p and play them at native resolution? You'll save tons of money and you don't have to look at any upscaling artifacts either.

OG games and emulators look sharp as hell in 4K, especially on a big OLED with good scaling-old sprites and textures really pop. 1080p monitor still makes sense for most modern stuff unless you’re rocking some god GPU and don't mind tweaking every game to keep decent frames. It's not about resolution war, it's about using the right screen for the right kind of game.

I tried 2160p and it just made text harder to read. Yeah you can increase font size but it breaks some applications, especially older ones.

I have a 2160p monitor but I run it at 1440p most of the time because its just easier on the eye and I don't have to scale anything at 1440p text is still very legible at that resolution.

1080p feels small to me now, I miss the screen space that 2160p/1440p offer.

I thought this way for ages. I had two 23.8 inch 1080p monitors and until May this year I'd had them for 10 years.
Decided to finally upgrade my PC and figured I may as well do my monitors too, so bought two 27 inch 1440p monitors and I can honestly tell you the difference is great, much cleaner and nicer to look at.
Jumping from 60hz to 170hz was massive as well.
