I have two PS2s. One is a slim with a working disc reader(I can also use it to load games by the ethernet port) and one phat with an HDD.
Then I also have a Component video cable. Hook that up to a modern TV and set the image mode to 4:3 and it's about as good as it get, for just about any game.

For older stuff, I use SCART RGB and a chink upscaler. It's about 90% as good as using one of those expensive, artisanal crafted upscalers that cost a ton and have waiting lists for purchase.
I did try getting a PVM but it's just stupidly expensive. The few that I've seen were comically expensive. I could buy a motorcycle for the same money.

Google up a guide, it's not hard. You use an ethernet cable to link it to your PC, place ISO images on a shared folder and load it via the linux tricks on PS2.

Yeah I just have a PC connected to a CRT TV instead, runs pretty much all the emulators I care for. I don't care that much about OG hardware, convenience & performance of PC emulators are just unsurpassed. The CRT TV kinda has to stay though, games look totally different on that thing compared to my modern 4k screens.

Get an MMCE compatible memory card. Make sure the SD card you use is not a SanDisk and that you use 32kb cluster size. It's the most reliable method for PS2 game loading.

i can't even get a ps2 game to run in an emulator. i've tried a dozen times on almost as many different PCs. closest i get is the game freezing on an initial loading screen and the emulator crashing if i press anything. i fucking hate it.
>use latest pcsx2 stable
>use a recommended NA BIOS
>try multiple file types for games, zipped and extracted, always seems to TRY to load at the very least and always crashes the emulator
>this makes me think it's a BIOS issue but i flat out cannot do anything more with BIOS files that i haven't already tried. i have even tried using a bunch of available PAL BIOS' out of desperation.

there are easily 50 PS2 exclusives or games that work best on PS2 that i want to play. i am losing my fucking mind here.

it's so fucking ridiculous that on the other side of the fence, you can install dolphin and load a .iso or .cvz or whatever and it just fucking works, and if there are any visual errors the wiki has 1 or 2 quickly changed settings that fixes it.
the only game i have had permanent issues with is Ultimate Spider Man and i'm 99% certain that was the worst version of the game to begin with.

I have a Slim model with FMCB ans a CRT with component and I still emulate. A lot of games either run like horseshit or simply don't look that great without at least a bit of upsaling. For some reason, NO ONE ever talks about performance.

What do you mean you don't know? Just go into Windows System settings and use CPU-Z. There might be compatibility issues even if it's a good PC.
>and i keep finding games that are a zipped .bin file. should they all be .iso files? am i just being screwed by the modern internet's ability to be useless?
Some PS2 games came on CDs and their disc images are .bin + .cue (two files) instead of .iso. You point the emulator to the .cue file in instances like those. If you don't have it, use one of those websites that generate the correct .cue for the corresponding .bin.

fuck me i don't think i did that. that's the like, 1kb file that is along with the proper sized .bin, right? why the fuck doesn't PCSX2 *SAY* that?
>you appear to be loading a .bin file. please try loading the associated .cue file
absurd that it has to be a fucking safari across the internet to get that instruction.

and if something specific about my mass-produced prebuilt prevents it from playing PS2 games when everything else runs like butter, i'd GENUINELY rather believe it's my own fault instead. genuinely. i have enough gripes with technology to learn i'm being crippled by it in yet another way
