>>715067482>cheap VR headset made only for pairing to the consoleI guess you can just do that with Wifi streaming now. It seems to work sort of OK.
>When Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo start selling a cheap VR headset made only for pairing to the consoleGod no. That would suck. VR needs compatibility with everything that has ever been in VR and everything that could potentially be modded or fangamed into VR, more walled gardens will not help.
Not having mod support or support for prior games will just suck the life out of a console.
You can already see the massive problem that Sony created with the PSVR and PSVR2 that have no compatibility with one another. At least a PC VR headset doesn't need to deal with the complete lack of any forward planning that is so typical of console manufacturing these days, since if there was forward planning, they would have just made the Dualsense into a capable VR controller in its own right.
>Costs 100$That's pretty ridiculous, since it would have to include displays, lenses, cameras and wireless tech. Try to get a decent 4K monitor for 100$.
>>715068221>but the main factor of it remaining a hilariously tiny niche noveltyThe main factor of its niche status (the same thing that plagued the Wii), is that it can never have a media presence in advertising and TV that isn't complete ass. You need to try it yourself in a good setup after adjusting it to fit to even understand what VR offers and people simply won't do that before getting bombarded with ads.
>More gamesI think at this point the industry just isn't producing enough fully fledged games for two wholly separate markets and barely even enough competent games for just one market. Mod support or VR modes are the only way to bridge the gap.
