The biggest sin of Remake is not letting you engage in hard mode until after you beat the game.
If you didn't play Remake on hard, you didn't play Remake.

Fresh Hard Mode is a must for these games, and I hate that you can't do it without modding. I even did a run of Rebirth with cheats to keep my team low level with no pick-ups just to try it out. You still leave the first chapter almost max level before Hard Mode EXP is bloated, but not having must-have materia for certain encounters is refreshing.

Gonna have 2 weeks off and I feel like this'd be a nice summer vacation game, but I also hated to filler content in Remake and 40 bucks is affordable but not exactly a "deal" either, so I'm really split on whether I should get it.

I think it's more that Hard Mode really forces you to consider and optimize ATB usage whereas in Normal/Easy, having ATB just means a little more damage.

Again, as someone who hated Remake, Rebirth's filler is actually enjoyable. On top of all the unique, one-time OSTs quests have, there is plenty of dialogue with the expanded cast that makes it worth it. For a two-week binger, I highly recommend it if you have any interest in FFVII.

I have a huge bias because I came to Rebirth off of FF16, which is basically the antithesis to Rebirth. I think you'll know if it's a worthwhile purchase the first time the game's main theme kicks in (you'll know). I hope you have fun with it. There's nothing missable, so just enjoy your first ride.

tbf, the new ATB is jarring enough that some kind of tutorial would be required. It's rough. Like, I personally think Hard Mode should be available form the start, but as a comparison, if DMD was available from the start of every DMC game, some people might immediately bounce off that. Basically, these half-measure integrations of action in JRPG mechanics is to blame. And I don't give the FFVII Remakes a pass for chickening out on that.

Like, explain what you even mean. Hard mode is a NG+, do you want NG+ stats enemies with your beginning party? are you serious? Or do you want to not use items? or never recover MP? whats exactly what you mean?

Yes, this.The idea is that in an action RPG, damage should be avoidable. It almost always in in Rebirth, especially in starting areas. Coupled with the massive EXP Hard Mode enemies drop, having a fresh start at it isn't unfeasible.

this is a hybrid. Damage is expected, but you can avoid the attacks with obvious winding and not being blockable.
