Unironically the best and least clunky combat in the series
Agreed. Never understood this idea that the later games somehow improved on the combat. Oblivion and Skyrim actually feel clunkier and worse. I hate how, in those games, your attack animation starts AFTER pressing the button. this makes them feel slow and delayed. Morrowind's "hold and release" feels better and the feedback is more immediate.
There's some other things in well. Since hitting the enemy no longer is determined by dice roll, they had to compensate by having the enemies be able to take way more hits and also be blocking all the time. So just normal hitting enemies in Oblivion/Skyrim feels so weak and ineffectual. Morrowind's hits have far more of an impact when they do land which is way more satisfying. I think the fact that blocking is automatic makes Morrowind feel smoother too. Maybe its too "simple" but how they implement blocking in the later games is not fun at all. In Oblivion/Skyrim the enemy is always blocking so you just have to power attack constantly. The stagger effect in Oblivion also feels terrible.
There's also the fact that Morrowind switches it up with different kinds of weapons and combat styles. Short blades, for example, are done by clicking fast instead of holding, which makes them feel really different and unique. And of course Morrowind has spears, which means the combat is more about keeping distance and positioning. The later games have none of this.

Combat sucks in every TES game and I unironically just want to play Dark Souls but with more than 5 NPCs.
>>715068834 (OP)>combat is usually over in less than 90 seconds, for better or worseI really don't have a counter argument OP, every other game including Daggerfall just ends up with slower encounters which in this case is bad. I haven't played much of Arena but I know I always spend 5+ minutes dancing with the skelly in Privateer's Hold (I consider him and the imp as my shit test for if a build is viable or not)
>>715068834 (OP)i love spamming the attack button and missing
nice poison ya got there
everything is weak asf in this game
get to the point where youre basically noclipping around one shotting everything which would be fun if there was some kind of equal
>>715070302Dark souls combat does not fit rpg like morrowind. And when it is how you said it turns out tes 4 and 5 dont have anything on morrowind since the only thing they try to claim is that combat is "better" lmao
>>715072327if you have trouble with this game after more than 20 years just neck yourself. you are too stupid for real life
>>715070757daggerfall has hilarious balancing though where weapon tier is vastly more important than stats, so if you get ridiculous luck you get a high tier weapon in the hold and you're immediately more competent than an endgame character
>>715068834 (OP)once you get some levels on you definitely, but early vanilla Morrowind is a slog to go through no matter how you cut it.
Oblivion combat is faster-paced, less cheesy and more engaging. Also the NPCs aren't completely braindead and exhibit behaviors more complex than spending all their magicka, punching you 60 times and running away if you jump onto a rock.
>>715074506>running away if you jump onto a rock.Oblivion enemies don't even do that
>>715068834 (OP)the nortubel of the elder scrolls series
>>715074657They do if they have no ranged options. If there's a bow on the floor they rush to grab that.
>>715068834 (OP)>skyrimungodly slow and boring, everything is the same
>oblivionfar too easy to cheese every single combat in the game, at all points
>morrowindPerfect.
>>715074807No, they don't. I once went into an oblivion gate unprepared and I only survived by sniping everything from a rock while they did nothing. And non-human enemies can't even equip bows.
>massive seething faggot copies some of the text, adds an anime image, and has no comment in their reply
You might be onto something
>>715068834 (OP)>combat in the seriesi like it a lot. every hit feels diferent.
>>715074506To add to this, having high acrobatics in Oblivion instantly makes the game's combat way more fun than Skyrim or Morrowind purely for the fact that you can just play the game like quake/hl deathmatch. It's a shame that throwing weapons got removed in Oblivion because I know they would've been far more fun to use.
>>715072327morrowind hate threads are like peering into the mind of an ape angry that he can't unscrew a childproof cap
>>715072327Well maybe if you didn't invest every point into gay sex you would be able to hit something.
>>715070302thats weird because dark souls doesnt have good combat either.
>>715084017have you considered buying more potions?
