tomb raider
Am i a contrarian for prefering the old graphics in remastered?
Anonymous No.715075843
It's a single-player game. Nobody cares what you like or how you play.

I wouldn't say so, half the time they look better. Luckily nowadays you can play with ye olde graphics at 120FPS.

No. Only graphix whores disagree.

Nah I also preferred it although when I played the games I cycled through both graphics styles very often anyways.

I am fine with the remastered looks but there were a few times, specifically in TR1, where the original aesthetic intent was boldfaced ruined. They did it clearly to explain light sources for areas that are meant to be deep underground, but often times really just ruined the whole mood. This area here is ridiculous.

Play the anniversary Trilogy retard. It makes the original game obsolete.

why is everything so dark in the modern graphics?
Anonymous No.715076204

Yeah agreed. Sometimes the more realistic lighting just ruins the setting. London in TR3 is a really good example. Super dark and moody in the original, 'realistic' and bright in the Remaster.

Anniversary is fantastic but I heavily disagree on it making the originals obsolete.

>modern controls literally break the game
The new model looks nice tho. Just like in the renders.

Not the best example. There's scenes where the difference is way much starker.

I recently pirated the first remaster collection after hearing so much about Tomb Raider over the years. It was fun at first, but by Egypt, I felt the game was becoming very boring and overstayed its welcome. The puzzles were, at times, clever, but mostly just cryptic and annoying. Some couldn't even be considered puzzles because they just rely on you finding some obscurely hidden thing. The controls are amazing for platforming because they allow you to be so precise, but they make combat basically impossible, although I'm sure I was just doing something wrong. I ended up dropping the game despite liking Lara herself and the atmosphere.
I kinda hate that I disliked it, since so many people seem to love the games. I'll probably give it another try some day. I bought Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld on Steam for like 2 dollars total, and I might play those soon.

I felt kinda the same but I love Lara too much to drop her games. I just don't like platformers and puzzles much.

I knew basically nothing about Tomb Raider, but I like platformers. I was going in expecting something like tank controlled American McGee's Alice, but I got a worse Resident Evil with more jumping. Although... I love Resident Evil, so, whatever.

Nice bait, faggot. Giving a (you) just in case a newfriend lurker thinks this is a legitimate opinion.

The first game isn't super beautiful even though it's my favorite TR game. The texture work and level layout gets pretty minimalist and almost like an abstract doom level. I think the next games do a better job with the graphics even though I kind of hate the games.
Still, the remastered game seems like an alright port, but I still think these games just need to be played on a CRT. Getting every pixel being precisely visible just removes the mystique of trying to interpret the visuals, it sort of makes the game more mysterious

It gets pretty bad with the more fantastical maps.
