Is Metroid Fusion underrated?
>but its linear
Its probably the most story focused game in the series and its done quite well. The game was designed around this pacing and its better off for it. The gameplay is just about as perfect as its going to get for a 2D Metroid game. The streamlining of the controls while it had to be done due to the limitations of the GBA it was for the better anyways so even this enhanced the 2D Metroid gameplay.

Really its only glaring flaw is the unskippable dialogue. Makes repeated playthroughs not as good as they ought to be. I think Fusion should be regarded as one of the all time GOATS in all of gaming. It does not get the appreciation it deserves.

I like Fusion a lot. I think its control scheme is still the peak of 2D Metroid control and wipes the floor with the stick control that Dread has.

It annoys me when I play Super now because of how the GBA games proved you don't need two separate diagonal aiming buttons.

It’s why I only play Super Redux now. It’s the same great game but with the GBA controls.

Most people loved it. Online forums always get dominated by complaints or criticism because they generate discussion. If someone comes in and just says, "This game is great," they get ignored or called a shill. If someone says a game sucks, people will spend all day arguing about why exactly it sucks.

Best bosses
Best soundtrack
Best spritework
Best story / atmosphere
Possibly best controls (Super feels way too sluggish)
>b-but it's linear!
don't care.

Going to have to check this out. They really should do a pixel remaster of the game that improves controls.

Fusion and Other M are phenomenal 9/10 games it’s just Zero Mission and Super are better. Dread is mid it needed more fanservice sexy Samus and actual unlockables. Emis also get boring on replays due to how predictable they are. Return of Samus is good too. Zero Mission is straight up the best.

Worst entry goes to Federation Fucks.

>Series about exploration and isolation
>Make a linear game where you have someone telling you where to go at all times
There's a reason why people don't like it as much as the other games
>B-but who cares that the best part of the other games was removed... this one has a story and a bunch of unskippable cutscenes!
The controls are great like >>715076353 said, but Zero Mission has more or less the same controls, while the game itself is much better.

Why did they bring Adam back for Dread? It’s like the devs are intentionally leaning into the worst part of the series. Both his interpersonal relationship with Samus and him telling you where to go and what to do next are my least favorite parts of Metroid. Samus went on 6 missions without a babysitter and now Nintendo and MercurySteam think it’s a core aspect of the series.

I want a Fusion remake so bad, just to add more to the content, like the fact that it was mentioned there was like 10 SA-X clones roaming around? would be neat to fight them.

name a more kino sequence in metroid than when the power cuts out on the elevator and you have to fight your way through the vines, the spider, SA-X, the kihunters, then finally you get your beam upgrade from the plant boss

Its alright but the bosses get too much praise. People think every boss is as well designed as Nightmare, but the quality of bosses actually has some extreme ups and downs, like webm related.

These games need hard difficulties in general. Something where Samus can only take a few hits minimum before death. Maybe even replace the energy system with something not too unlike Ghosts n Goblins.
Anonymous No.715083779 [Report] >>715084945 >>715086313
>>715083562
To be clear that webm isn't on hard mode, but the damage is so low it wouldn't have made any difference. That said Dread gave you exactly what you're asking for.

But in the case of Fusion, even harder difficulties don't always help, because some of the boss patterns are just way too simple.

You're so powerful by this point that I usually facetank and spam missiles. I won't call it a good fight, but it's very satisfying to just unload on neo ridley for 30 seconds

>>715083779
after multiple palythroughs, serris is really simple like your webm, but I remember it being a challenge on my first playthrough (when you don't know his general pattern and are just worried about getting knocked off into the water)

Spamming charged plasma beams rather than missiles is part of what makes it so trivial, because it stunlocks Ridley for a good full second with each hit.

I honestly feel like Zero Mission deserves that spot significantly more than Fusion does. The only thing people don't like about it is the ZSS segment, but it gets pretty much everything else right.

yup. super and zero mission have the same philosophy with environmental design. Of those 3 games I just like Fusion's the best.

To be honest though on a first playthrough most kids would likely panic during these fights and move around a lot making the fights harder than the webms imply. Not saying you are wrong here but this is something more that would be noticed on repeated playthroughs for most people. Fusion was a handheld game after all during a time when most people playing them were young children.

>I honestly feel like Zero Mission deserves that spot significantly more than Fusion does
You would be wrong. Zero Mission may be a solid game all around and the ideal introduction to the series for a newbie, but it really has nothing going for it that isn't done significantly better by at least one of those other three games.

Fusion at least provides a much different setting though. Zero Mission is just a remake of the original game with a padded ending section after the self destruct sequence when you defeat Mother Brain for the first time. I definitely like the game a ton it is awesome but Fusion at least provides a different enough feel to Super while also being amazing in its own right that it should get the nod above ZM imo. ZM is a lot more like Super but with much more watered down for a handheld experience.
Anonymous No.715086828 [Report]
Fusion has too many small claustrophobic rooms. I prefer Super for the map and aesthetics and Dread because it feels designed to want you to zoom zoom.

Also that ending part with the Meta Ridley fight feels extremely tacked on in hindsight. It would be more akin to being a DLC had the game came out today. Probably a free DLC due to the length or it would come packed with other extra goodies to justify a small price tag but still feels like some serious padding just to extend the games length a little extra.
Anonymous No.715087381 [Report]
>>715086313
I don't think moving around matters much at all for the Ridley segment, what's more impactful is whether or not you use the plasma beam or missiles. What you said about Serris is true, but the mechanic of the fight is all about using that ceiling, meaning to avoid damage you're pretty much forced to learn the pattern and avoid damage in a manner that will end up looking like that webm in some way or another, rather than making split second reactionary decisions. Honestly I think they were fucked when they decided to use the ceiling mechanic on a boss that has the fucking speed booster, there was probably no really good way they could have pulled it off. B.O.X. is a way, waaaaaaay better use of that mechanic.

>>715086457
I can't think of anything in particular I prefer about Fusion over ZM honestly.

>>715086684
I agree at least that if I had to pick between Super or ZM I'd definitely pick Super.

What I make a habit of doing is having a save file at the very beginning of the game and whenever I start a new playthrough I just copy it to a new file.
