The fucking rotating spiked pillars in God of War 1.
If you have widescreen mode enabled, it just cuts off the top and bottom of the image, meaning you can't see if the path above you is clear or not. I did not know this when I first played the game. It took me over an hour to beat a gameplay segment that's about 45 seconds long.
