Krafton just responded https://krafton.com/en/
>However, regrettably, the former leadership abandoned the responsibilities entrusted to them. Subnautica 2 was originally planned for an Early Access launch in early 2024, but the timeline has since been significantly delayed. KRAFTON made multiple requests to Charlie and Max to resume their roles as Game Director and Technical Director, respectively, but both declined to do so. In particular, following the failure of Moonbreaker, KRAFTON asked Charlie to devote himself to the development of Subnautica 2. However, instead of participating in the game development, he chose to focus on a personal film project.

Completely deserved, I don't even need to hear the reason from instinctively knowing they're jackoffs who find ways to waste time instead meeting a deadline like most westoid studios.

-IIRC sub zero also got rid of being able to 3d print guns or something because guns bad, but it's been a while so I forget exactly what happened here

it had no combat but they kept the gameplay fairly interesting by expecting you to learn to navigate and assess risks and plan accordingly

$250 million bonus is outrageous when you consider that Subnautica 1 didn't even net $250 million in profit over 10 years. I don't know why Krafton would have agreed to that in the first place. The whole reason UW sold to them is that they were bleeding money.
Steam takes 30%, so in order for Subnautica 2 to recover the cost of a $250M bonus it would need to gross $325M. Even at $80 USD per copy that is 4 million copies. Subnautica 1 only sold about 6 million copies over it's entire lifetime, at much lower price points.
That's NOT including the initial cost of acquiring Unknown Worlds, plus ~4 years of operating costs while developing Subnautica 2 and their other little Moonbreaker game that flopped.

>>715091594 (OP)Was Subnautica worth $250 million?
>>715091594 (OP)>UKNOWNWhy do spergs making these call to attention images never spend 5 fucking seconds to ensure they don't look like children? They even went full caps to ensure you don't miss it.
>>715122145>250 millionThat's the bonus. They paid 500 million for it. That's 750 million. Then you need to whack on the marketing, a cut for the retailers and so on. Something seems wonky about this whole thing. Were they hoping to flip it to Microcock or Snoy or something?
I don't understand how you can take money from somebody and then not do the thing you promised to do for them in the timeline YOU BOTH AGREED TO
>>715122452Was Unknown Worlds worth that much? Google tells me Subnautica only sold like 6 million copies.
>>715122508The studio took the money and delivered the project on time. According to them.
>>715122664I don't get it either. I know they gave just as many copies away for "free" on Epic etc, so perhaps their were big licensing fees involved. Also Subnautica was a glorified indie in development forever. Perhaps the publisher thought with the big money would come a big Triple A title version. Then they saw the result and shat themselves.
wasnt this the game that got a woke sequel?
>>715122821Krafton is the publisher of PUBG. Or rather they're the company that came out of PUBG's success. I'm guessing they just didn't know and got taken for a ride. Krafton also funded The Callisto Protocol which didn't turn out well, but cost a pretty penny.
>>715112923The original game was a marvel, the second one was dogshit
Just South Korean companies doing South Korean things.
They're the Israel/Jews of Asia.
Remember when Nexon economically assassinated Dark & Darker out of spite?
Partly why I didn't buy Dave the Diver.
