I've had a Steelcase Leap and an Aeron. Neither of these chairs ever remotely benefited my "physical health" any more than a $40 office chair would.

I had a company issues Chinkshit office chair for a dozen years that was literally falling apart and it was comfy as shit. If I could have found the manufacturer I'd have gotten the same one but the Leap has been fine for the PC at least.

I looked around for a nice to play to try premium chairs, but I live in a kinda rural area. A Staples 30 minutes away, an Office Depot an hour away. These places do not stock the A list chairs for you to try. They stock $100-$400 chairs people buy based on aesthetic and if it's comfortable to be in it for a couple minutes. The chairs wear out relatively quickly, to which I speak from experience.
I decided to blind buy a refurbished a list chair. I went with a Gesture and it's still in shipping. I'm pretty nervous about it, but in some of their marketing they showed an enormous fat chick in the chair lmao, so I'm taking that as a show of confidence in its build quality and ability to accommodate all body types.
I couldn't get one with the included headrest sadly, so I've been googling the ways that R*dditors have mcguyvered third party headrests on with zip ties.

I'm actually looking for a new chair since my old one gave out. Any recommendations? I've never really gone in for Gamer Merchβ„’ as it always strikes me as cheap shit with a cheap fighter jet shaped plastic shell put over it. Are there any sensible, affordable office chair retailers out there?

Sorry to hear that, there's a channel called BTOD with a few chair reviewers who all seem to favor the Leap over the Gesture, and I hypothesize it is a height thing. I think tall guys will prefer the Leap. Conversely, a team like NYT Wirecutters has some more women on it, and that team chose the Gesture (with Aeron runnerup).
I got the sense the Gesture may be better for a heavier person so that influenced my decision. I've been losing weight lately but still.

You're not immortal either. Don't invoke "the long run". A short life or a long life, it's only as meaningful as the person living it thinks it is. It's the height of arrogance to insist that the way you choose to live is the proper way and others should feel ashamed for valuing different things. Maybe your life would be better if you minded your own business.

125$ for a steelcase leap.

Worth?
Anonymous No.715102732
>>715102580
Worth as long as you don't sus out any context for why the asking price is $125. If they're just trying to get rid of it to make space for something else, $125 is a steal. But ideally you'd get a chance to test sit in it and mess with the controls to make sure nothing is broken.

Got a used Herman Miller for half price. I love it, it's very high quality, but I just don't think it's worth $700, let alone $1500. At least it's lasted me several years already and with no sign of wear will hopefully last me another decade.

>Are there any sensible, affordable office chair retailers out there?
chair markup from the original manufacturers is real, just learn the reputable brands+models and visit stores or fb marketplace/craigslist looking for gently used or new chairs thrown out or sold by big companies, testing them out for yourself
make sure you pick the right chair for your height
your ergonomics above all, aesthetics is dead last
consider the floor surface you are working on and pick appropriate casters (wheel shit)
if fat, careful with mesh chairs because they can cut off thigh circulation. add a pillow under your ass to raise them away from the edge of the seat
make sure your desk height and chair height are matched properly (look it up)
