I really would be a lot more interested in this game if it wasn't donkey Kong. It doesn't make sense as a DK game. It feels like they just tacked him on because of the IP.

In the same interview, they also explained why the destruction mechanic is so big. Apparently the technology was already used and experimented on by a dev in Mario Odyssey (breaking through cheese in Lunchean and getting rid snow and stuff, etc). So they just expanded the technology so you could destroy full terrain and thought DK's strength and long limbs were fitting for the mechanic.

Simple premise, easy to understand. The hardest thing to grasp is the Inkling species, but that's why the "Squid Research Lab" reintroduces players to the Inkling each Splatoon Direct. That's all a 5 year old needs to understand the world of Splatoon. Bananza on the other hand has magical rock formations, zebra-gorilla transformations and skies beneath the surface of the planet.
